I am a little disappointed with the cost of the grand company promotion as well as the weapons. The main reason for this is the same as the original poster. I do not plan on making a relic weapon. I have made my peice with that so I am settling for a decent Grand Company weapon.

Now while some people may be sitting on a few 100k seals I am going to say by the long lines waiting at the Caravans most are not. This means it is either a lotto of who gets in a caravan run or taking turns. Myself when I log on I want to play. I do not want to do a run for 15-18 mintues, then run do a Company leve, then maybe have a turn to play again.

I do have a few suggestions to improve this however:

Grand Company Leves: Please increase the reward for these quests. At the same time please make it possible to do these in a group. I would love to make a guild leve XP party earning my seals, playing with my friends so it does not feel like I am grinding. Instead I am just playing with my friends as I work on a goal.

Quests: I would love a few repeatable quests that offered some seals as a reward. XI had a varirty of ways to help out with the war effort in WotG some of these could be adapted for XIV offering some new content.

Caravans: Please make these instances. There is not a lot of these in the game and currently only 8 people can do them at a time. Instances would allow two or three parties to partake in the caravan runs at a time.

They just did with the recent upgrade to seal reward. Also you do get XP for doing these quests. Also these can be done solo, and there appears to be no-queue issue. Is this still not enough?

I fear people would just complain: Going to grind that quest 10 more times today. People will complain about anything that even smells of being repeated. Unless its an original (and different) quest each time, people will call it a grind.

Well, technically 24 people (since there are 3 sets and you can partake in any of them). Also, if you time things right there should be little to no queue. By timing I mean:
Don't do it the moment new content comes out demanding seals (other people are thinking the same). Don't do it just before the next patch (as other people are also thinking: Gosh, got to get my seals up). Consider doing it in the quiet time between.

I think the main issue people have with seals, myself included, is the sheer amount of time required to get 25,000 of them.

Yes, they can be obtained solo. Yes, they're easy to get. You know what it isn't, though? Fun. Hours and hours of repeating the same thing is not fun. I don't care if you're the most efficient seal farmer in the world, it still take several hours of dedicated effort to get 25,000 seals. For gear? That's fine. But simply for the chance at doing a quest / rank-up? It just seems excessive.

I always thought the seals were meant to reward us for our efforts with gear, but most people are stuck hoarding them for rank ups.

But see, it's not just that.

Also too, I've been playing since beta, played xi for 4 1/2 years and have played a handful of other mmos, so I am no stranger to them. I'm just saying.....and pointing out....that to me it seems stupid to do the same thing over and over and over.....like I said in my original post, just when i think I'm done spamming something, they add another thing that requires you to spam it even more. Bad enough that I spammed CC/AV for Darklight gear, THEN had to do it for AF quests, NOW we have to do them AGAIN for a small % chest drop. Wasn't bad enough to spam Ifrit over and over for weapons, NOW we have to do it again, and this time even HARDER than before. Wasn't bad enough that when DH came out, we all spammed it for "endgame" gear at the time.....Then had to do it for Af gear, NOW we have to do it again for the Relics.

I know that they are just giving us something to do, and are making use out of what they have in 1.0, until 2.0 launches, I get that. I understand that it makes no sense to put dev time and money into a client that has -3 months left in it, I get that. I also understand that they want current players to have something to look forward to....I get that. But leave some of this shit for 2.0. I'd rather they hold off on some things, so this massive spam fest doesn't ruin the actual content itself, and ultimately the game. I sincerely hope in 2.0 this changes.

    Let's do some maths!
Caravan run will net between 500-1000, but let's use 750 (as that's pretty common to get). Therefore, 750 every 15 minutes is:
    750 * 4 = 3000 seals per hour!

Now, let's say I decide to average one hour a day to caravan runs. Over the course of a month, I would get:
    3000 * 30 = 90,000 seals!

Okey, let's say that's too much. Let's say I want to only do caravan runs an average of 3 hours a week:
    3000 * 3 = 9000 seals / week!
    9000 * 4 = 36,000 seals / month!

So, if you contribute to your grand company that you joined and choose to be an upstanding member of a mere 3 hours per week, you will earn 36,000 seals a month!

    Now let's spend those seals!
After 1 month you have 36,000 seals.
You spend 25,000 seals to get a promotion, leaving you 11,000 seals.... but wait! That's not all! You now unlock a quest, and this quest rewards you with............. 5000 SEALS!!!!
Finish your quest, and you end up with 16,000 seals!

What does this mean? Be a good member of yoru GC for 3 hours a week, and after a month, after a promotion, after your quest, you STILL have 16,000 seals!

Keep up the good work soldier, and a month later (before 1.23) You'll get another 36,000 seals putting you at..... 52,000 SEALS!!!!! Time to go shopping and buy that lovely new Lieutenant's Weapon (or 2)!

All this (and more!) can be had for only 3 hours per week! Run, don't walk, to your nearest recruitment center and sign up now! Remember, service guarantees seals!

Previous promotions have cost 10% of your previous seal capacity, so that would make a promotion from Chief Seargent 4,500 seals.

    Bill = 25,000 seals.

    Must be special...

I'm just going to add this here...
That's a pretty realistic amount of effort required to go from sergeant to officer.
Hell, i'd know, it's going to take me five to ten years plus a lot of study (or the closest RL has to grinding). Not to mention the courses...
I don't care if it's a suddenly huge price or whatever just- That makes this wildly hilarious to me and i'm all for this just because of that.

I agree...Caravans should be instanced. It's stupid that only one party can do at a time. 24 players in the entire world doing caravan while other sit around and wait.

Let's be honest for a minute. Caravans are the only way to farm seals that aren't a waste of time. While Ifrit runs do provide seals the drop rate is too infrequent to make it worth while as just seal farming.
