This system may have the power and sold more units last gen (if u call the wii last gen), but the fact remains Nintendo is a casual market, and doubt it will sell well on the WII.
I hope you have your teeth prepared to bite your tongue, because you should never ever count out Nintendo. Staying on subject though, it is not quite clear if DQX is an MMO or something like Monster Hunter. I wonder if SE would want 2 MMO's (if DQX is) on the same console? In the case of XIV being on wiiU that is.

I guess it would be kind of neat to turn on a Wii U and see the "Miiverse" comments for FFXIV. All of them would say "Got dark matter again "

By the time 2.0 is out and stable the nextxbox and PS4 will be around the corner probably.

Also, Microsoft is really restrictive with cross platform play on it's XBLive platform. (especially with PS3) Just ask Valve's Gabe Newell. Probably the reason an Xbox version is always mentioned, but they just say "we're in discussion with microsoft." Would probably be a hard sell now especially since it will be out for PS3 first.

They made an exception for XI probably because they were trying to capture more of the Japan market along with all the other stuff they were doing like Mistwalker, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, etc.

If 2.0 is a huge success, Microsoft might budge, (I mean seriously exclusivity nowadays is getting DLC a couple weeks earlier) but until then, there is a pretty low chance. If XIV was allowed, it would probably need to have it's own separate servers just for XBLive, which is the opposite of what SE wants with this game.

I'm still hoping they port FFXI to the Vita like Tanaka was hinting at awhile ago.

Have you played DQIX? From what I've heard it's similar to that; an extremely deep RPG with the option for multiplayer battles/exploration at virtually any point in the game. The only real difference that I've noticed is that the online functionality makes opportunities for multiplayer much more common, as well as trading and such.

So yeah, my money is on something like Monster Hunter. I doubt we'll see any real sizable updates for it, aside from disc-locked content being given out periodically. Which brings me to...

It certainly is powerful enough. If PS3 will be able to run it then the Wii U will, that's just a fact. The real issue is going to be storage since, once again, Nintendo decided to go with a minor amount of flash memory as opposed to an actual hard drive. Granted that never really stopped SE from getting FFXI on PS2. An external hard drive is always possible.

the most useless stuff imho ;D i mean... a mmorpg like FFXI you cant play in the subway for just 10 minutes and say to your group "bye sorry i have to go now, i arrived at work" ;XD

i dont get the sense of making an MMorpg portable. its not something that you play in some minutes and pause it in between.

Wii U tablet is perfect fit for a MMO game.

Besides it probably wouldn't have much competition on WiiU.

IIRC, SE has bad relations with M$ because they wish to charge the XBox Live fee on top of the game's subscription fee, which isn't something that SE wants. I can't give you a source on this, but it's something I read a while ago, before FFXIV was even released...
As for WiiU, I feel that because of the differences in controls (with it's tabletesqe controller, among other things) it might be a pain for them to reprogram the game to be released on the console.

It's funny you mentioned DQX and then brought up the issue of low storage on the Wii/WiiU. As far as I understand it, you need some sort of external HD to play it. I'd assume the same would be true for XIV.
