    3. Unless there are serious driver bugs, no video card would melt regardless of how high a framerate you have. Video cards can usually handle temperatures around 100 C anyway. THere is no real difference between the temperature output of my video card if I turn up my graphical settings so that I have 100% GPU load while getting 40 FPS or if I'm having 100% load and getting 80 FPS.

I'm sorry but if your gpu is anywhere above 80C your doing it wrong (and even then).

My GPU isn't, but seriously, many GPUs can easily handle temperatures close to that.

Can handle =/= is ok to do it.

I mean, a video card that is a lot of time on that temps gets a lot more of strain and it will probably stop working faster that a cooler one. The most common thing it will happen is that some tin balls that make the contact between the board and the procesor will start failling and you will have to cook the video card or do some reballing.

    1) Will we be able to play the game with "Triple Monitor Display"? (I think 'Evefinity' run's it now?)

nVIDIA 3D Surround Vision works very well on the current version of the game (3 monitors display in 3D), the borders between display in that kind of game is not a problem, you can even put all the logs in fullscreen on the side displays and have a constant clean main display !

    2) Can we play the game in 3D?

Yes, as I said you can play the current version very well with nVIDIA 3D Vision for a single 3D display, or nVIDIA 3D Vision Surround for 3 3D display.
There are some games that looks awful in 3D because of rendering problems, but FFXIV works great in 3D, at least with nVIDIA hardware.

    3) Can the new engine allow a display of Over 60fps?

I really hope we will be able to play at 120fps/120Hz in 2D, the alpha engine was locked at 30 fps and 720p (that was painful), then the current engine is locked at 60 fps, and it's still awful to have this limitation.
But I'm afraid that the new engine will still be locked at 60 fps, and the reason for that is the PlayStation 3......... this console can't render more than 60 fps.......

And as for Vsync problems, if you play in fullscreen, you can force the Vsync inside the nVIDIA drivers, it works very well, and better, since the last version of the drivers, an adaptative Vsync is available, it's a Vsync that has less impact on framerate huge drops.

What this games needs badly is to be able to play with a dual screen mode like some very few games like World in Conflicts, the second display will only be used for logs, mini or not so mini-map, and all kind of UI stuff, in order to have the main display clean:

And as for DirectX10 or 11, I am very doubtful they will use them, even if in the screenshots of 2.0 we can see some very little volumetric lights effects (god rays), usually those are possible with DirectX10, I'm really hoping they will switch to a modern APIs, but I am very skeptical...

Is Portal 2 locked at 60fps (pc version) for multiplayer between PC and PS3? I'm just curious. Also, did XI on PC also suffer from fps lock because of the PS2?

    EDIT:

That's a good question Kamikaze Man, I never played Portal 2 on PC with someone on the PS3, and I'm also very curious to see if there will be a lock on PC at 60fps.
If someone owns Portal 2 on PS3 I'm ready to try and find the answer, so that the dev can't tell us after that: PS3 limitations sorry.

It's also tied to the number of times the FFXIV servers refresh the world, and as we all know, it's the crappiest refresh I have ever saw, like 1 times every 2 sec:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIJCQs-R7X4

The Counter-Strike servers I host for my team on a dedicated server has a world refresh rate of 1000 times per second...
Ok you can't compare them, but still...

As for people who claim all over the internet that a human eye can't see over 60 FPS, it's a myth and a misconception, I invite them to follow some medical school class, and to really try a First Person Shoot on 60 FPS/60Hz display, and right after that to try the same game on a 120FPS/120Hz display, and if they can't see differences, they have a real problem !!

I had the chance to try a 240FPS on a 240 Hz (real 240 Hz, not interpolated) Canon SED display, and I still can see a huge difference between 120FPS/120Hz, too bad that today we have crappy LCD instead of the SED and FED displays...

    1) I'm almost more than positive that you will be able to. It's not a setting for the game or anything, it's only possible if you have a video card and cpu that can be pushed far enough, not a limitation of the game.
    2) Can we play the game in 3D? You can play in 3D now, and with a regular monitor I play in stereoscopic 3D mode sometimes, and it can be a lot of fun. I think the last time I played like that was around easter....seeing the floating eggs in Uldah was pretty neat, and was crazy at how real they looked. Actually, it was amazing how EVERYTHING looked.
    3) IMO, I think there will be a 60fps cap on game, like it is currently.

You'll be lucky if the PS3 can push out more than 30 frames a second.

That is what windowed mode is for, go into settings and check windowed mode, and make it the same resolution as your desktop. A fullscreen game but the ability to tab out when you need to.
