)New players are going to prioritize regional servers since they are used to them from other games, crippling the flow of new players on the existing international servers

So basically you want to deny *everyone else* low latency gameplay because you want to force people to stay on a server that's not ideal for them. Now that is at least every bit as egotistical as the people who want low lag are.
