I'm not English native, so no, not "everyone knows what is meant by using a certain term". Maybe people who speak English natively could link it to a metaphor, but nonnatives tend to read the word and context more closely in order to understand and the way I read it, it can't realistically be called a wasteland, but lifeless more than anything, since while there's NPCs and the like, it lacks "life".
I'm sorry that I wasn't aware of your background, and I'm also sorry for just trying to clarify by adding the rest of the definition that you had left out. I realize that kind of defeats what I had said, haha. Again, the "worthless for cultivation" would just be a part of the metaphor, implying there isn't anything Gridania has available to "cultivate," or offer, aside from the guilds, which even then are still empty most of the time.

My apologies. I didn't mean to come off as being rude.

But you didn't take time to fully explore it. Sorry but kinda seems useless to call a game something after only seeing 1 location. They are remaking the area around gridania and changing the combat system it was just delayed due to the disaster in japan. I personally don't think you gave it a decent re-try.
How am I supposed to know wha the most likely starter city is? Magic? Telepathy? What?

I didn't play FFXI, so why would there being no difference matter?

I played for six week late last year, so I wasn't only seeing one location. Now, yes, but there didn't seem to be anything that really made me want to venture further.

One poster mentioned a lack of wolves on the way to to the next city, and you might be right. I was finding it hard to get that far because of game crashes. I said I might look at it again next week but, as I said several times, I don't really feel compelled to.

You might be right, maybe I didn't give it a proper retry and maybe I'll look at it again.

Oh sod off. I was dissing your gameplaying experience, I wasn't trolling. I was trying to be constructive and offering my own opinions on a board where SE might have a look. You don't like what I wrote, then great for you. Why not just say everything I've ever done in life is wasteful, whilst you're at it, because you're so keen to make call me meaningless.

Quite a few people care what I think. Parents, family, friends, partner. And, whilst I still hope that everyone who is still playing is enjoying it, having said that genuinly and repeatedly, what great improvements have been made? What, since all the patches were released, really backes you stand up, punch the air and shout "wow! that's great!"?

And which of those can you easily use? Which of those don't need a keyboard shortcut that isn't publicised? When you're starting the game, what has changed for the new player that doesn't make them feel lost? Do you really think the starter tutorials are good? Do you think the classes are now balanced? Do you think it's fair that any login/pc/hardward/and yes game software problems that cause crashes leave you unable to attempt a levequest for up to twenty four hours?

This next set of patches feels like a game changer to me, anyone else feel like these are the most important patches to date?
That sounds like a great point to jump back in. As someone else said about the next patch being delayed due to the earthquake, I didn't know that and completely justifiable that it should be put on hold, since people's lives are far more important than anything else.

I'll have a proper look into what the patches are going to include. Like I said, I really want to like this game and want SE to give me a reason to.

I'm actually feeling to tired to carry on working today, so might try finding the post about adjusting system settings to avoid crashes and restart at a better place. Thanks for yours, and everyone else's, advice!

I have a few friends who drop by now and then since the game is free. They only jump on and play for 30 minutes or so, then they're gone for another few months.

This game needs another year at least for content. There's just not enough to do right now.

You, youll find alot of the crash issues are fixed now at least, there are alot of things that can still be done with the game to make it betetr(lets face it, what game cant still be made better).

Just check weekly on the front of the lodestone and youll see new posts there either regarding patches or letters from the producer and they will give you a good idea of whats going on(without the mindless assumptions people in these forums make about what they actualy mean)

    @boil

Sorry you feel that way. I have just come back from a big break as well. I am not impressed with the changes either. But I have hope, and will stick around for a few more months to see what their "big" changes are...

As for these forums, be wary of anyone with a post count above 300. They are usually trolls who don't recognize their own trolling. If a thread like this pops up, half of them tell the person to go back to wow. Not a very constructive place for people who feel frustrated with the game as you do (even though there are a ton of people like you).

Regardless, I agree. The changes they have made are not what people expected after 6 months of post-release development. There could be a thousand reasons why, but our end result is unfortunately the same.

    cheers ^^
