

Look at FFX as well, in a summoner fight we couldn't summon the same aeon as the other summoner used, because there was only one fayth for each summon.
Actually, this is where they screwed up, because in a later cutscene in the game we could clearly see that more than 1 can exist at a time, the rules for the 1vs1 fight were they can't use the same aeons to fight each other, not that it wasn't possible.
It does cheapen it, but in FFXI it made sense overall considering they were images (Avatars) of the actual god so multiple copies could exist, the reason it would cheapen it in XIV is because the gods are alive and active, so there's a good chance we're going to be getting 'Avatars' again of things like Carby/Cait Sith/Fenrir.
