The downtime will be minimal, because we will be doing the beta while they are transfering data, don't worry, you will still get your FFXIV fix most of the time.
Yeah the downtime makes me a bit sad, guess I just got to play twice as much before that!
The summon system sounds awesome though!

No it won't, they have to take down 1.xx to transfer our data to the 2.0 beta, both versions will NOT be up at the same time, read the interviews properly.

The summon system sounds interesting, my only worry is that hardcore LSs will try to bot them and no one else will ever see them, but we will see.

For the longest time the only mmos I played was XI which was about 6 years and this game on and off but recently I picked up a new mmo that has jumping in it and I was just down right amazed that I could jump in an online game and dont think I could ever go back to a game that doesnt have jumping so thank god 2.0 has jumping. This was posted once somewhere on the forum but here is a song I think of every time I jump. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txWUM-3q-0s and I never played WoW or have any interest in it.
Thank you very much. Nice reading^^Ok. 4am. Off to bed since have 3.5 hours to sleep before waking up and heading back to day 3. Hope you all enjoy. I think we got some nice nuggets here. I think we captured most of what was said in the write-up, but feel free to ask follow-up questions and we'll expand if at all possible.

Nice interview.... But.....
I don't think I can handle not playing for up to a month when they shut down the 1.0 servers.

I think you didn't read it right.
1.xx and launch!2.0 won't be up at the same time. However, they'll be running the beta tests in between those (we aren't using our 1.xx characters for the beta test so we don't need to wait for the transfer).
What’s going to happen is that after the current version is finished and storyline over, the servers will go down and the 2.0 beta will start up. We want to make sure we don’t make the same mistake as before, and want to be sure we have enough time not only for the beta test but also to get feedback from the players and leave enough time to implement that feedback. Also, keep in mind that transferring the characters to the new servers and systems could take up to a month. So that process will be running while the beta test is in place.
Honestly, looking back at it now I would have much rather waited a bit longer to have the game launch like this instead of 1.0, even if it means the whole legacy thing is gone. Compared to everything the game has been through so far, and everything the community put up with, one month of downtime isn't that big of a deal to me if the new version is right around the corner.
Perfect time to catch up on some console gaming.
