Also do remember that the two Legatus are at odds as well, Nael is all over Dalamud, Gaius does not agrees with Nael's methods at all. Hell, the two even bickered in front of the player in one of the Flames quests

The Crystal Tower was talked about in one of the lore articles that they post on the Lodestone occasionally. I believe it talked about it being underneath Mor Dhona. Also, what Crystal Tower? Is there actual in-game mention of the Tower or where/what it is? I know that there's an ancient burial complex in/around/under Mor Dhona, but I'm confused as to what you're talking about exactly. I'm gonna go and rewatch the opening movie, though; there might be something here I missed (and it's been a while; that thing's fun to watch.)

Of course; which makes me think it's Odin again. He's always valued (and in 11's case, shown himself to) strong people, but they've always been kind with it. Such is reflected in Odin's character traits in the series; when he's been a character and not just a summon, he's always been a knight first and foremost. He's been incredibly strong, but kind. The Legatus could be at odds because they're both displaying the same traits as Odin; things which do conflict in this case.
In FFXI, at least, there wasn't much /kind/ about what he did- he was a magnificent bastard who trolled the Terrestrial Avatars while being on their side, arguably did everything he did for his own survival first, for the lols second, and because a world without mortals would be boring third. His solution- admittedly, the only viable solution outside of constant divine intervention, and the only solution that -didn't- have the side effect of spinning off multiple universes full of misery and suffering- to the central problem of the plot was to cause a 'glorious' war that would never ever end.
That said, as I've mentioned previously, that doesn't really have any bearing on the plot of FFXIV obviously! (Also, Gaius is a -lot- more sinister in the Main Scenario quests; he's only better than Nael in that he wants there to be an Eorzea left to rule, whereas Nael wants to leave a big bite taken out of reality where Eorzea used to be. (Which: Why would Odin want to do that, I wonder? Maybe Nael's taking things too far, and that's why there's going to be a Seventh Umbral at all instead of Eorzea falling into the Void; maybe Odin will stop the machine once he's close enough to get out.)
7UP!

Or it might just be something as simple as what was referenced with Ifrit when he demanded you and your path companion bow to him alone. Odin might want the rest of the Primals out of the way.In FFXI, at least, there wasn't much /kind/ about what he did- he was a magnificent bastard who trolled the Terrestrial Avatars while being on their side, arguably did everything he did for his own survival first, for the lols second, and because a world without mortals would be boring third. Nah... that's what players are for. i.e. trigger something that will cause impending disaster so that heroes (i.e. players) will have to save the day with the side benefit of allowing Odin to leave his prison safely instead of turning into a big smear where Eorzea used to be.
:P
That definitely did occur to me, yes. But if there's no Eorzea, there's no stomping grounds for Odin...
Have you done the Garuda easymode fight? I don't remember the exact dialogue, but there was a fairly chilling revelation during the cutscene after the fight; I'd try to paraphrase it from memory, but I don't remember it properly and I really don't want to get it wrong. The upshot of it was that the energy dispersed from defeating the Primals over and over again is going straight to Dalamud, and bringing it closer, though...
(...not that this stops Louisoix from churning out inferno lamps, of course.)
7UP!

I don't know. I think impact'll happen.

I wish I had, I'm no longer in a linkshell and play solo now. I'm having issues getting folk for the magitek drill thing before I can flag Garuda since it keeps squishing me relatively easily, lol. But! That information's kind of... goddamn. That definitely did occur to me, yes. But if there's no Eorzea, there's no stomping grounds for Odin...

And~ What if the impact doesn't completely destroy Eorzea? I mean, it might wound the realm enough to warrant the map changes, or do something to it otherwise, but not actually destroy everything. Obviously, I'll need to check stuff out to confirm but I can't remember any NPC dialogue suggesting that Meteor would entirely shank Eorzea without it being conjecture from the NPCs, like worries and fears.

Ugh four pages of reading bad nicknames...
