Padding shell on top of protect doesnt make it unique. Basically u'll still end up with casting both after certain period of time.Dude(s) lol....I don't want to be more efficient. I want things to be enjoyable. There's nothing enjoyable about casting the same damn spell over, and over, and over again, every 5 minutes. If they increase the durations, and add shell, at least I feel like I have some versatility; or that I "remembered" to do my job better than the next guy; or SOMETHING. Not just "auto-play."
Having multiple Tiers on spells ALSO added to that overall sensation. Using Cure II instead of Cure III for example, when someone is too close to full HP to justify a Tier III or a "Cura;" You save mp; you draw less hate, allegedly, and so on...
I don't always want to choose between 500 dmg (aero) or 2000 dmg (aeroga)....What about everything in between? And don't even get me started on Answa's comments lol....
Rasp, Choke, and all those you mentioned...did NOT do the same things, aside from being DoTs -anyway, enough said.
Tier of cure isnt unique either.
Just say if you want tiered spells, your justifications is horrible so far. Unique abilities wut.
I think I have stated many times this is a pretty terrible system.
Just because spells wern't used ALL the time, doesn't mean they were not helpful in other situations.
It's kinda like armor, when the hell am I going to use defensive armor for a mage? yet there's still armor out there that adds defense for mage. That armor will only be good for some occasions. So why not have those "useless spells" not like you are going to use them anyways, or bother with them. So why take out stuff that can differentiate the good from the bad players.
Like why do we even have multiple sets of armor? That's stupid, most of it is ulsess to me anyways. Lets just get rid of anything that isn't good or that I wont use ever.

WHMs used Banish, and Holy? lawlThat's what Dia and Banish/Holy should be for...giving the whm more to do. Buffing every 5 minutes is just tedious. If all you ppl have so much trouble w/ A.D.D....how bout you just medicate, rather than ruin everyone's gameplay w/ these "positive" comments about this crappy system lol :P
they weren't used because they had no strategic value, now they do. What i wouldn't do to get Spirit Dart and Mage Weapon skills back it was a hell of a lot better than sitting there with my thumb up my ass waiting for mp to Regen. also Rasp Choke etc etc had different elemental affinity's, Aero works when your not killing wind mobs, or mobs with high wind resist.
you can have all the spells and ability's in the world, alot of good that does you when elemental affinity means next to nothing and the World is empty as hell. both those things have been fixed, now is a good time to reevaluate skills like siphon, Shock Spikes, Circle Slash etc to be reintroduced.
ill take class diversity over class specifics any day...its funny alot of people bitch about how they cant play the class how they want to. yet here we are Justifying eliminating skills by combining them. because we all know the less you have the more you have right :/.
as for efficiency its a bloody game not a job your meant to have fun and not justify everything you or your friends do by effectiveness.

Or are you just ignorant, and don't realize how great things would be, if SE acknowledged the fact that melding aspects of XI w/ XIV could easily have a synergistic effect on the overall gameplay, and XIV would sky rocket above everything else available in the MMO world.

Also, I played FFXI for 8 years. I love that game. But I'm playing FFXIV now and I do not want the same game.
