On the Legacy Campaing page :
"Users with service accounts that have paid for at least 90 cumulative days of subscriptions between January 6, 2012 and the start of version 2.0 beta testing are eligible."

Does that mean 2.0 Beta is about to start?

If four months from now is soon, then yes.

That tells us "around the ballpark" date:

- To get Legacy you must Start before May 31st
- Free Trial +3 months= 4 months
- 4 months From May 31st= September 30th ( aka FFXIV 2 year anni.)
- Beta will most likely to start October 1st ( or perhaps they'll shutdown servers to prep certain things for the destruction of Eorzea).

I started playing again about 2 weeks before the "welcome back" campaign

I paid for 90 days right away and got my the e-mail saying my account was a legacy account at the same time as everyone else.

Edit : I agree it sounds logical that the beta starts around september/october.
Still, when I read what is written, to me it sounds like beta will start in june.

Er no. You need to have registered before June 1st. Paying comes afterwards.

What they mean is, that's how early you have to be registered in order to make sure you get the next 3 months to become a legacy member.

Whatever happens, I expect that there will be a fairly long down period between taking version 1.0 offline and bringing 2.0 online. I'd imagine that moving all of our character and item data over to the 2.0 servers will be a more time-consuming process than the server merge was. Also, the 2.0 announcement page says this:

As part of this process, there will be a period required for switching over to a new client and new servers, after which there will be a large transfer of data when service is brought back online.

It's really hard to tell at this point exactly what will happen when. Maybe we shouldn't speculate, but it's just so much fun.

Servers are most likely going to go down for at least 3 days to get everything up and ready for 2.0 transition.. week at most.
