The issue with XIV, is the interface and security SE currently uses. Since it would pass through their routing system, it must meet criteria that it currently does not. However that has changed and some rumors will be dispelled in 2013.
Loosing Revenue generated by those who passed through Microsoft's Data & handling servers was intended? i think not. What the FFXI client did was completely pass through Microsoft's Data Handling Severs, nothing touched the Microsoft servers it was a strait shot, Xbox FFXI Client to SE's Servers. this was not intended and was later rectified. they do not want SE doing the same thing again.
