Didn't one of the two netcode tools come out around the end of ARR or early HW? It was possible to screw up your own mudras by hitting the hotkeys faster than the client would ping the server, and SE wasn't fixing it, so people took the matter into their own hands.

As for how meaningful anything is, about the same as anything else in life. It all depends on the meaning it holds to any individual person or collective. To some people, the health and integrity of their main hobby matters greatly. So a lot of people care.
Because I don't have to spend my whole life leading in with platitudes as though I'm trying to tip-toe around angry mobs on X? I don't have to care or find things important, or care that you do. I don't have to think actions need to be made because other people care about something that I don't think is a priority, either. This really screams of needing everyone to say "even if I disagree with you, you should get what you want."

I also already wrote pages ago that "people have different views" since that's a given in life?

Yup but the facts don't suit the narrative they are pushing for some reason. They must genuinely be so bad at the game that everyone who is above their skill level is "cheating."

If South America is unsupported, they should not have allowed me to buy the game, the moment I was easily allowed to buy the game and pay my subscription, something they could easily block people in those regions through IP, and no hoops need to be jumped to do this to be clear, I am supported in every way that matters.

What happens when people run LLMs on the next generation of GPUs to play their games for them? Integrity is a losing battle in the digital age.

You could bankrupt the whole company trying to eliminate cheating and still not succeed, so I want SE to try to preserve the best possible experience for the most players. If being somewhat lenient is the best way to use their resources/the most comfortable experience for the most players, that's fine by me.

It would behoof you to not so obviously proclaim that you haven't read the comments you're quote-replying to. Maybe it was a bit intentional of me to word it that way to elicit that quote from someone not having read what they're thinking they know it says before replying to it, graaaanted.

It's nice that you reacted so predictably, I suppose.

If you had read what I wrote before quoting the very last sentence only, you might have realized I wasn't talking about what you are talking about. It wasn't even about FFXIV. But hey, reading comprehension has apparently been on a strict downtime over recent generations anyways, maybe I ought to not be surprised since you act this way in every thread. Maybe you just genuinely cannot parse what others write. Which is fine, but then reply without a quote, that signals that you're not referencing a specific element of the existing discussion.

Yeah I tend to agree. Reading across all their posts in various discussions, they always come off as someone who'd vote for a far right party, this whole "equate everything with one minor element that supports my omg-illegal argument in a minority situation instead of actually going after the illegal stuff" is very much how those factions view things such as female bodily autonomy, immigration, crime or self-determination. It's a pure black/white mentality that leaves no room for any understanding, nuance, discussion or even production (as in, working on any actual problems). Maybe they just genuinely are bitter they can't play the game without addons and are envious of others who do, projecting that outwards into a perceived hate of others who use addons, idk.

Anyways you're probably right. Sorry for the rambling. Frustrating people on this level exist even on the forums of a game such as FFXIV.

The really interesting part is how a game designer counters things such as a monitor with a hardware-integrated cheat to highlight important elements. Basically in WoW-terms, bossmods but in hardware. And we're so close to that, right now the driver is needed but give it a teensy tiny push and given we already got hardware cheat tools for other games, it won't be long before someone can do all of this with 0 software interaction. Botting can already be done entirely externally in theory (keyboards/mice can do macros + your monitor or gfx card could analyze the screen to figure out what happened + be directly connected to your input devices to cause them to emit a key/mouse event as if you had used them).
People keep saying "Just use an anti-cheat", with 0 technical understanding what means and 0 social understanding how that was a 2004 solution, in 2026 that's laughable at best and downright insulting at worst.

If players have peferences or needs that are not provided or possible within the system, it's up to players to communicate with the developers and allow sufficient time for solutions. Otherwise what you're doing is performing unilateral action, plain and simple, no matter the context. It can now be argued players incentivized the developers to pass extra work on to players and that has resulted in the ecosystem we see today. That doesn't prove the inherent value of the ecosystem, it just explains its trajectory.

I have no dog in the fight whether you need tools to win or outright hack or whatever. However it's worth noting refutations to the original post are lacking, even when they appear credible "this job or function was broken absent our intervention".

Similarly "well it has convenient benefits to the market" , "I don't care", "You can't actually see it, etc. If doesn't change what you're doing really and it doesn't account for all the baggage of the very first unilateral action. Its kind of like getting an in and taking a mile right. As now we have myriad actions and all the different types of people they have attracted.

Consider we now have players launching actual stalker tools.

Players have been asking for a netcode fix since ARR but because it isn't a problem in Japan where everyone has sub 30 ping SE won't fix it. People have brought the issue up to Yoshi P in person.

So yeah people are gonna use what they need and have pretty hair.

Yes, but unless you give him time to actually implement a fix, what you're performing, no matter the situation is unilateral action, and it can be used to justify all the cheating and hacking that goes on.

Even if he comes out and says, no, I'm not implementing a feature or I'm not fixing a function of the game. Really, the choice is to exit the system, not modify it at your whim.

It's also worth noting this is why the conversation headed toward a dev-approved tool set. It's precisely because devs have so lazily allowed players to create a whole new market of tools and a whole new value system in terms of the game. That is the TC point, right, that the devs did not maintain the integrity of the game. I don't know what the problem is with admitting that. Yoshi P is effectively a slum lord at this point because the initial actions have given rise to all manner of actions that even well meaning modders themselves don't necessarily approve of. Its resulted in five different versions of the game, which causes fragmentation amongst the player base socially. There's just as many downsides as there are upsides to mod culture in general, and the devs certainly have not handled it with integrity. I can agree with that.

I have zero understanding about this, but how WoW does nowadays? Because with such a large community there, I don't think I ever heard of people actually automating fights. There are reports of people botting more trivial stuff like gathering professions though, but even those don't seem to be as readily available and easy to set as modding is in XIV.
