How does anyone take pvp seriously?

Not only that, how do you expect it to ever not suck with the games network infrastructure?

People get so mad in frontline roulette sometimes for teams not coordinating to the "commander larper" in alliance chat.

this isn't chess it's 72 man whack a mole chaos royale and no amount of sweating will change that.

That’s really more of our problem than a universal one for all FF14 community
I have characters on both the Japanese and Traditional Chinese servers, and the experience there is noticeably different from what we see here.
It is not perfect, far from it.
When there’s no commander present, matches often devolve into players just chasing kills rather than playing for the objective.

However, during prime time, the dynamic shifts significantly.
You frequently get Commander vs Commander vs Commander, which turns matches into genuinely engaging three way battles.
It creates a level of unpredictability and coordination that makes the mode far more enjoyable than the typical experience we are used to here

And in my opinion, witnessing/participating to this level of unpredictability and coordination (as so rightfully described above) at their peak create the most enjoyable and fun moments or games of Frontline (be it a win or a loss), even though such moments and games tend to be rare. A "wow" moment for those sensible to this thrill.

Taking it seriously? Not really, not until it has some visible results. I'll even take something cosmetic like my FC's banner flying from a settlement in the overworld, with a bunch of generic "(FC name)'s Guards" in the equipment and colours (glamour) we picked around it, until another FC conquers it from us.

But it can be fun regardless.

Well there's your problem: you're talking about Frontline. It hasn't been good in a very long time and has long rewarded lethargic play. The players that it attracts are generally not there to sate some competitive spirit, no matter how many "commanders" you want to throw in there.

Until the reward-to-effort structure changes, I fear that Frontline is not much more than a playground.

Not anymore, no, not ever since the presence of premades made me realize that all matches can be predicted in the first 2 minutes and individual contribution doesn't exist.

"Follow the deathball and pray RNG gives you the better 4/8-man stack" doesn't make for engaging gameplay, and Crystalline Conflict isn't much better now that duos are allowed in. It's best to just do whatever you feel like, trying to derive what little enjoyment you can out of it while you seek Series 25-30 and then can stop queuing for a few months.
