I do develop software with Database but in different way. I want to ensure mirgation won't be an issue, including backend and frontend. I design structure so I can replace if I needed and reason why I do this because in 10 years we will have better technologies and better solutions. Personaly myself I don't want that my software will stuck or will cost a lot of money to migrate. It is all about thinking ahead rather making solution which works now.

The biggest difference is that WoW, Guild Wars and others are receiving massive updates and very frequent ones, unlike ffxiv where we wait 4-5 months for a patch that brings nothing to the game. We have devs here struggling to bring blue mage updates that they promised ever since 7.0 was released, no wait, they were talking about blue mage update even before 7.0 was about to release!!! Yet they can't deliver what they promised.

They needed 10 years to change that you can mount while running, they needed 6-7 years to change so that Viera and Hroth can wear hats (still many restrictions), how many years for glam fix? They are incompetent and struggling with most basic tasks. How can we then expect from them to fix netcode and migrate database or something to a better platform? I honestly doubt that. We have more and more increased patch cycles and soon expansions will come every 4th year or so. Nuts game.

On the same forum page is "Is it just me or is there maintenance too often?"

Only a handful of those are hotfixes. The rest are content patches.

They DO release a patch with updated content pretty frequently. If you only count MSQ and raids as content, then you're only looking at about 30% of the depth of the game.

BST was always going to be at patch 7.5 because back in the day BLU dropped on a 0.5 patch.
