Either way, if it is now feasible for them to fix all of the broken systems, I'm thankful its happening now as opposed to never.
Yeah, I always hear the story about how the devs tested glamour dressers in player housing and it caused their test server to crash because the game couldn't handle thousands of possible people pulling up thousands items with thousands of different dyes while also simultaneously trying to make sure the insides of houses with hundreds of its own items render properly (because I guess the inventory code for gear overlapped with furnishing inventory), and the test servers especially didn't like it when more than one possible player used the SAME dresser at the same time. Its why glamour dressers remain in "static" locations and in private instances, because then there's no furnishing data to compete with the load or any risk of more than one person accessing it in the same place, and probably why they always add more glamour slots with caution because there's a risk of overload even with the safeties in place.

What I wondered about earlier is, if them changing the way housing interiors are coded and consolidating dyes is a step towards making glamour dressers safe to place inside of player homes. Maybe not right away, but at least closer to achieving that.

Given that all gear is placed into specific categories within the armoire, by default they should be adding a "Dungeons" or similar tab, assuming they don't just overhaul the entire interface into further sub categories for future-proofing. Such as say... trials and raids, or even relics and aetherpool weapons someday. If part of what makes the armoire "safe" to use is because it automatically scrubs all dye information, then adding every non-dyeable item in the game would be the easiest slam dunk.

I wish they'd also let us store the relic weapons/gear in the armoire

While they didn't mention weapons in the recent live letter, they did mention that all job-specific artifact gear will be included in the armoire update

The armoire is superior to the glamour dresser, and the systems supposedly work completely differently.
If i recall right, the glamour dresser is like an "instance", whereas the armoire is not. that's why the glamour dresser can't be in a house and you can't access the plates in combat instances.

Perhaps in the future, we can move all glamour into the Armoire, and the glamour dresser can save the dyed versions, and create the glamour plates, but not actually store gear. That could be the best we could hope for in the current game (unless ffxiv is remade into a new engine).

Due to the way the Armoire stores items, it cannot store the custom stats of the relic weapons, hence, if you have several Relic Weapons, that cannot be stored in the Armoire or Glamour Dresser, they take up inventory space. Yes, you can get 'replica' weapons that you could store in the Armoire or Glamour Dresser, but that doesn't solve the initial problem of storing the original relic weapons with the custom stats.

The items stored aren't the "same" item in the sense that when you give an item to a retainer and take it back it's the same one.
The Armoire is just a big checklist of "did you have this item? Y/N"
Meaning things with customizable stats are unlikely to be given way to armoire storage, as much as I'd like them to be too.

Personally, I'd gladly accept the compromise of erasing the customized stats when putting it in the Armoire, plenty of those weapons, like my Zetas, my Luxes, and frankly everything but my Physeos, are never going to be used to begin with, but there is that element of collection still.

The restating process still exists if you want to use them again later for any reason, so it's not like it would be any permanent damage.

If it would just hold all my replicas, I could find space for the final relics in a retainer. For the relics I really liked, I liked the different stages enough to buy all their replicas… ideally you could store replica and relic, but if it has to be one or the other for some reason, the replicas would save me more space overall.

This would be ideal going forward. I think anything that's dual-dye going forward should be stored in the armoire.
