I wouldn't even mind it that much, but the game becomes a ghost town whenever there's an update and playing alone is no fun.

Except there hasn't. In the past 5 weeks there was only down time on Feb 4 and Jan 26. The last time before that was Dec 24 which was 6 weeks ago. Instead of making up a scenario to make your point, use the actual facts for it. Granted it's not all that much. Far less than the other big MMO out right now who has had nothing but down time and fixes lately and has a far far far buggier state right now than FF14 ever has. By competition standards SE has been doing great all things considered.Instead of zooming out to play defense for Square Enix, actually look at the data you just posted and see how there's been downtime each week for the past like 5 weeks. It's irritating, particularly when you don't get to play every day and it keeps cutting into the time you can actually get on.
Edit: I should add that I by no means condone a lot of the current design choices and think SE has dropped the ball in many ways in regards to that. It is only in terms of build stability and maintenances that they have a good track record.

It's also just bug fixes after players play and inevitably break things the devs didn't find and the patches that ADD content. Completely normal game dev stuff.04 Feb - All Worlds [Emergency] Maintenance (7.41 fixes)
26 Jan - All Worlds Maintenance (Patch 7.41)
24 Dec - All Worlds Emergency Maintenance (more 7.4 fixes)
18 Dec - All Worlds Emergency Maintenance (7.4 fixes)
15 Dec - All Worlds Maintenance (Patch 7.4)
No Downtime 12 Nov (more 7.38 fixes)
No Downtime 20 Nov (7.38 fixes)
10 Nov - All Worlds Maintenance (Patch 7.38)
15 Oct - All Worlds Emergency Maintenance (7.35 fixes)
No Downtime 08 Oct (7.35 fixes)
06 Oct - All Worlds Maintenance (Patch 7.35)
04 Sep - All Worlds Emergency Maintenance (7.31 fixes)
01 Sep - All Worlds Maintenance (Patch 7.31)
No Downtime 12 Aug
07 Aug - All Worlds Emergency Maintenance (7.3 fixes)
No Downtime 05 Aug (7.3 fixes)
04 Aug - All Worlds Maintenance (Patch 7.3)
So in the last six months, there have been 6 content implementation maintenances and 6 emergency fix maintenances. That's 12 maintenances over the span of 182 days. Hardly "constant" and "out of hand".

Rather have that than have endless bugs like in Wow. Be grateful they are actually fixing something.
"oh no I hate it when developers tries to fix things and I can't be online 24-7"
