I have 1 problem with FF14 races.

It's a Final Fantasy game. If anything, it needs more of them. XIV is rather tame in its furries in comparison to most of the FF series though.

Not really? Most games the protagonists don't even have any non-humans in the party or they have one, and some of those are just "Human but with animal ears/tail". Shoutout to FF6, 7 and 9 being outliers for having several non-human party members. Even if we're talking about non-protagonist races, I don't think any other final fantasy game has more beast races than FF14.

FFXII Moogles are the best Moogles. They would make a fantastic playable race in FFXIV.

This so much actually, I vastly prefer Moogles feeling like a real fantasy race as they do in XII and in Ivalice games in general, than being the Marketable Plushies they are everywhere else, and I was deeply disappointed when XIV Montblanc turned out to be a normal FFXIV Moogle that happens to have Montblanc's name.



In general, I feel Ivalice has the strongest race catalogue of any Final Fantasy setting, it's genuinely not even close.

I, for one, think a dog race would go well and it would be a good idea to increase the amount of customization in a game which SORELY needs it.

To be honest, they could re-use the body/skeleton/structures from any of the races to make a new race and just overlay whatever type of "skin/fur" they need on that, really they only need to make new heads (and maybe tails depending) to be able to add a new race. I'd find that totally acceptable.
And didnt they actually tweak the "bone structures" of each race when they did the graphic overhaul? I swear I saw a section in the liveletters or keynote during the lead up to Dawntrail...

EDIT: I guess it was this I remember them talking about. (2023 London Fan Fest Developer Panel) They incorporate partial automation and morphing of gear to fit other races. If they reused "body" assets, they wouldnt need to do much racial scaling and could focus primarily on new "racial" heads.

Underrated comment. All the races* use fundamentally the same base model stretched out in various ways to achieve their in-game proportions

Me too, and it seems like they would be relatively straightforward to implement since they're basically just a fuzzy lalafell.

As much as I love Ivalice and FFXII I'd personally have to give that award to FFIX. Not only does it have a very diverse and well designed main cast but the sheer variety of races you encounter throughout the game is unmatched. Speaking of which, Burmecians are another race I'd love to see in FFXIV but only if they got their proper rat legs, so I doubt that one is ever going to happen sadly.

I was about to reply saying I wanted Burmecians in FFXIV. I know it will never happen, and if it did, they would probably make them look really wonky and clipping would be terrible, but they would be unique at least. It would give a cute and smaller animal like race.

Burmecians being small seems to be a common misconception, presumably due to the heavily stylized FFIX art style portraying all the characters as short and squat. They're actually around Hyur Highlander height. Freya specifically is 6’1’’ and the other Burmecians you encounter are generally around her height give or take.
