    What if: Movement during casting

    What if we can move during spell casting?
    I thought about this matter and i think it'll be interesting, the movement im talking about is (walking speed) movement and not running, and it can be cancelled by the jump button.

    I mean yeah it'd be an option but there is one key problem and that is that you cannot abort a walking-cast (see PvP), which is probably something SQEX doesn't want to touch.

    Hence they rather achieve the same effect by say, lowering casting times on BLM. If you think about it the total mobility is virtually identical (you have a full-movement followed by a standing cast or vice versa versus a slow-moving longer cast).

    Yes i think it will be similar to PVP casting, regarding the aborting issue,i suggest they make the jump action cancel the casting action.

    And yeah the current "Shorter" cast times helps, but i'm still irritated by some situations, where i need to cancel my cast for 2 steps outside the AoE.

    It’s not a bad idea in theory but given how casters are now (barely casting lol) I feel like this would go further in making them feel even homogenized with other roles.

    I’d say that (a) phys ranged could utilize the walk-cast mechanics from PvP, but they effectively already tried that in HW (though it was stutter casting and not regular movement lol) and it very much did not go well lol.

    tapping escape cancels walking casts on keyboard, with controller it's jump. Running casts are also a thing now with Teleport.

    Might be something they could use with more summons on SMN. Limiting weave space but not mobility as much, though Titan technically does this more naturally with Mountain Buster

    I think they’re referring to the PvP walk-casts for Bard/Machinist. Basically the casting is resolved so quickly that once you hit the cancel button you’re effectively locked into the cast and it executes anyway. That said, as far as I’m aware I don’t think any caster currently has cast times around 1.5s like the phys ranged ones, so I don’t think they’d actually have the same issue with casters if they ‘ported it over’ so to speak. But again, I’d rather see more / longer cast times for casters, more ‘turret style’ than ‘physical ranged doing magical damage’ lol. Though I suppose at this point SE doesn’t actually see ‘casting’ as a main component for magical ranged classes, as long as they deal magic damage lol (PLD caster confirmed?)

    No, no, absolutely no.

    I don't want casters to get even more flexible in movement. They are barely different from physical ranged as it is with SMN basically being a full fledged one.

    If you reduce the casttimes even more then you can just remove them completely, you can then even remove the magical role from the game entirely, given the other jobs also shoot out funny colours everywhere.
    I choose BLM in the past because of it's turret playstile and moving at the last second to get the very last Fire iv out was always a big highlight. I like standing still and using that to think about things, i even lower my spellspeed as much as I can.

    This is the kind of thread that the devs cite as "players wanted it" when they change the jobs.
    There are absolutely ZERO situations you can't solve with slidecasting or all the instant casting tools in the game right now. You can even raise your spell speed if you want or play a physical ranged. I don't care if you or others are "irritated" by it. Learn to play around like like the rest of us or play another job.

    If that crap comes next expansion then I am done, really. Do not remove the very last remaining job identity of the casters (not you SMN).

    So again, NO.

    Also, if you did that you would make phys ranged even more redundant in parties, especially MCH.

    Give Phys Ranged walking casts, and Magical Ranged can keep their regular casts.

    Making it cancellable via Jump helps a fair bit, but you still then have the problem of being locked out of any new cast until again grounded (about a full second).

    Honestly, I'd rather this be used only on a single job I can then avoid accordingly or to see additional options --such as having to hold the cast or clicking a new cast with more than .5s left on cast cancelling the current cast and starting the new one instead, etc.-- added to finely tweak how it feels to play.
