If anything I expect 2.0 to have more instancing.
There is no way to do cross server content without an instance to put everyone in.

Can always change that aspect.. They don't have to do cross server stuff.. and its easy to just abandon it if they wanted to do such a thing.. and it wouldn't hurt the progress of FFXIV in anyway.
LOL you don't just abandon something which has taken countless hour of thought and programming to implement, chances are the code for the new servers are pretty much done at this point.
Yoshi has a vision of making everything accessible and trying to limit the amount of waiting around doing nothing, people will always complain, just look at how some people complained about the new crafting changes for example.
Can't please everybody, the best they can do is please the majority. (and yes the players poll was the majority)
The point is yes he has a Vision and he's going to see it through, like you said can't please everybody, but you can please most people.. if this is what's pleasing most people then so be itLOL you don't just abandon something which has taken countless hour of thought and programming to implement, chances are the code for the new servers are pretty much done at this point.

Edit: and your right they won't just abandon it.. at least not without a legitimate excuse of course.. and the only one of course would be is if the Majority were against this ( if it is true that Instances are going to over run the game). SE needs to make money, and if one of them is please most of the people.. if most people are not happy with what they are doing.. they would need to adjust to the cause.

Everyone knows that poll question your talking about was totally loaded in the first place. I would love to see the results if they asked us again directly this time.
People have at least had a taste of how "Awesome" instancing everything under the sun is. But I for one refuse to take that poll question as a "Majority of players" because many voted for it under the pretenses of the claim system. The forums here have shown a rather decisive split in the playerbase about the issue (Unfortunatly we can't poll the non forums members ourselves). But I'd like to see the results without having the question lobbed into another question.
Funny timing that I read this post tonight...

WoW will have cross-server zones implemented. Essentially, they're taking the concepts of cross-server instancing and bringing it out into shared, non-instanced world zones, mixed in with what sounds like their phasing technology, based on the description they give. Very interesting idea.
They're keeping the system limited to groups of servers, and it seems like it'll be utilized in lower level and/or lower populated zones. In any case, it sorta blurs the line of what a "separate server" means.
