I know how DDoS attacks work. That explanation is fair at first, but not when nothing gets done about it and the impact continues to get worse. They could move the server location, or proactively invest in VPN servers and route players through them whenever a DDoS is happening so that they avoid the affected node.

It mostly affecting NA doesn't necessarily mean it's a DDOS. There may just be a fault somewhere in the NA hardware that's causing it to fail more easily under load.
Yeah idk if its just not enough pepople are being loud abouit it, or they dont care, or if this need to go to jp forums to get noticed. This is insane and its just the same "DDOSS ATTACKS OCCOURED" twice every day...
Again. I had four 30-minute queues today.
They stopped caring long ago, if ever did. You guys drop big $ into mog station shop, that's all that matters to them.

The NA region has a higher concentration of a particular type of basement dwellers in their mom’s house that makes this more likely to happen would be my guess. How come it's only the NA servers getting DDoS'd? I mean if it's targetted at the game I think EU/JP might get some too right?
Note: I noticed during prime time I was experiencing lag/packet loss around primetime, seemed to lose packets whenever it reached uh.. whatever its called something 99.net, not everyone seemed to have lag issue but I've seen some people in NN complain.
Below we have a transcription of what Naoki Yoshi-P Yoshida said at PAX:
- "For some players, like me, I kind of get sleepy because it's so repetitive."

I mean not really, they definitely care about having a serviceable product so it's a bit dramatic and overly cynical to say "they don't care bc people spend money on the mog station". What good will that be if people can't play the game they spent money on the mog station for?

You know. I was looking forward to this patch. I really was. I get that a lot of people are returning for this patch but the DDOS is unacceptable. We finally recovered from that last month and now it happens AGAIN? You gotta be kidding me SE.
It sort of is, frankly. They just don't want to incur cost to mitigate this fiasco. They really need to get a 21st Century ISP and NOC that cares enough to be mitigating this 24/7, and that can happen. But it will cost them, and that's probably not on their care-o-meter.Honestly, this isnt Square Enix's fault. It's the fault of whatever person refuses to let others enjoy the things they pay for. They aren't hurting Square Enix (if that was their intent), they are hurting the players. But I digress, while Square Enix can mitigate it to some degree they can only do so much.
