Not a single armor set has made me go, “OMG, I need that set!” The armor designs in Dawntrail have been really disappointing. I was hoping 7.4 would finally bring something different, but it’s more of the same. I don’t understand it—most of the sets are either unattractive or just plain boring to look at.

Can we please aim for better designs?

Okay look I bash DT constantly for the lack of content, bad design, and god awful story but one thing I will say is it has a lot of really nice gear. The two sets I have planned for my main jobs come 7.4 when glam restrictions lift are using mostly pieces from this expansion. This is entirely subjective of course, but one area I feel criticism of DT isn't entirely warranted is armor design. There's some stinkers, sure, like the current tome sets and much of the Arcadion gear, but every expansion has had bad sets in roughly the same volume to my memory. Again though, this is a very subjective point of criticism. At the very least though? The AF sets are phenomenal, best we have ever had in my opinion, and the previous tome sets were amazing too. Best tome gear I've ever seen really.

I mostly just miss the old art style. The textures on a lot of recent gear look too detailed and realistic, sometimes to the point of not matching the characters wearing it.

Probably gonna make some folks angry but this aggressive push for modern street-wear is really offputting in the general setting. It clashes so hard with the OG sets from many years of past content. The occasional silly set here and there and some comfy basic clothes are nice but these extremely modern fashion/futuristic sets feel incredibly out of place, like a bad product ad. The latest PvP set is giving more Kingdom Hearts than FF.

No I actually agree with you on the streetwear junk. I'm getting INCREDIBLY tired of it and wish they'd stop making so many sets that put real world kpop idol tier fashion in my high fantasy MMORPG.

I like the designs from the new dungeon coming in 7.4, and some of the dark horse gear, but for the most part I do have to agree that I dislike most of the dawntrail armor sets.

Only issue is no light saber arcadion or vanguard weapons, but More sci-fi weapons that come off as plastic toys. Howling blades weapon should have been used as a basis for cruiserweight weapons

There have been plenty of modern or at least modern looking designs to gear in the franchise, but they always took those looks and made them their own with various embellishments. Now they just open a fast fashion website and reproduce things exactly as they are. This problem has seeped into even historical or fantasy looking gear. While you used to be able to spot a FF character a mile away from their aesthetic, everything is so boring and generic these days, at least in XIV, that it feels worse than it would be in other games.

Absolutely, yes. I actually don't mind the k-pop inspired set with the chains and stuff that we got for PvP currency so much. While it is straight up modern fashion it does still match a lot of sets quite well that we already have in the game and you can totally match them outside of their own sets. To me that is what defines a set that works and sadly that just isn't what we have been getting. Even the magitek and allagan inspired stuff has always been quite consistent and made to fit the overall style.
