Gotcha, thanks for explaining.I believe this was answered before but someone mentioned that the PS network has a minor different connection. It connects to the FF server through the PS network. So players don't get the same errors unless the servers are 100% down. That being said if something happens to the PS Network, then PS players are boned until that gets back up. Cause apparently some people on VPNs and cloudflares also avoid the DDOS.
I really know f-all about this, except for the fact that it's happening.
SE should give all active accounts during this period 7~10 days of free game time for all the disruptions we've have been having lately.

3 million wow = wronge they have a lott more now i play wow to ever since dragon flight its packed it the main tons of people now here not as many any more
I'm a new'ish player. Just started a couple months ago and just started paying like a month ago. I'm now actively avoiding the game this week due to the disconnects, moving to other games. They are close to losing me due to their silence. If they cannot do anything about it, so be it and say that. It is unacceptable though for a live service game not to communicate with customers on a regular basis, period.

WoW always reports characters because players usualy have several, you can easily divide it by 3 or 4 there to get more realistic numbers. And these numbers have been very stable for years on that. expansions only give a boost for a few months, and then it rapidly drops again back to its average.
This is an obvious bait because ffxiv doesn't have that big number, not even close lmao and wow was always having more. Ffxiv has like less than 1.Facts in support of DDOS:
- WoW just introduced a premium currency and a lot of people are upset. Usually, a DDOS coincides with bad news in WoW.
- A lot of bots got banned, so the bot owners are taking it out on FFXIV.
- We correctly deduced that "other" countries like Malaysia, Philippines, etc. were behind last year's DDOS due to the payment processor change. Maybe they're still having trouble paying their subs?
Facts in support of server overload:
- FFXIV is still the world's most popular MMO with over 30 million players (WoW, in comparison, only has around 3 million). We know that Square Enix did not anticipate FFXIV being this popular.
- A lot of people are running the new deep dungeon (if the game world feels empty, this is why).
While it's obvious to us it's not really a DDOS, it may not be obvious to SE. It may simply be what their ISP is telling them.
Yeah just using Google proved that 2nd part wrong completely.Facts in support of DDOS:

I get that there's people that hate WoW and vice versa. But at least try saying something that isn't easily debunked.

You can likely do this with lucky bancho numbers for XIV too since many many many of us have multiple alts. Which makes the situation we are in right now even more grave than most realize considering the last numbers were hovering around 700k iirc.WoW always reports characters because players usualy have several, you can easily divide it by 3 or 4 there to get more realistic numbers. And these numbers have been very stable for years on that. expansions only give a boost for a few months, and then it rapidly drops again back to its average.

I get why lots of people have alts in wow, since you can't multi-class there. Why are alts a big thing here?

Personal anecdotes? The ones that come to my mind currently:
- RPing, probably high in number. It’s not uncommon to see RPer creates multiple alts for their OCs (Original Characters) to RP as.
- Submarine alts. Some players use an alt to man their shell FC to operate their subs. OR they create alts specifically to have more Subs.
- Play with friends in other DC. Yes, there is OCE. But sometimes not having access to retainers or being thrown into ARR contents too much in low pop DCs can be a turn off.
- Free retainer spaces, provided they can get into same FC & ask for permission to transfer items using FC chest, or with a help of their friends. Oh yeah, more space to list up item in MB, too.
- A friend of mine also make use of their ‘easy weeklies’ for more currencies than what 1 character can generate namingly more custom deliveries to complete, doman enclave turn ins—the list goes on.
