Shameless self bump, but it was implied in the 7.4 that overworld changes could be on the agenda for the future. Improving the gameplay for FATEs will be worth it, and I still want these changes.

It would be cool if you could use the overworld environment against FATE enemies. Such as being on raised elevation or hiding behind pillars to avoid certain attacks, hiding behind a cactus when targeted with a charging tackle to hurt the enemy, or nullifying fire related attacks by being on water.

Careful, now. If we could have situations innately improvable by sandbox elements, how would the previous-mechanics-randomizer stand out in our "handcrafted" fight designs?

Great idea, but the thing preventing this is the same thing that has made striving to provide challenging content an all pervasively poisonous struggle, and led them down the god awful DDR situation we have today, where the only challenge is in watching YouTube videos until you know exactly where to stand, exactly when, 'ahead' of time.
The game engine with its snapshots, still uncorrected "netcode" (unless your using addons if course), fluctuating "server tick", etc stuff I don't want to know about at an intellectual level in a game, means that would just be frustratingly futile experience. See Fall Guys.

This is the one area SE have s good excuse for not being able to easily fix. It would take some real ambition to split the game into battle engine 2.0, vs new battle engine 3.0 with a 'totally different feel.
I don't see them doing that except through having two games accessed through one launcher.

(back for the free 4 days. M1, M2, M3 were great. Monster hunter normal trial was amazing. But until X-DC PF is implemented and the casual game is invested in, there is no point in making new social contacts that will leave again, so while I've had fun re-running instances until I've got one piece of gear, I'm done after a day, and I've no reason to sub for even a full week.)

Tbh, since what's being asked for are all mechanics we already do quite often, the only problem would be if the poll rate is far, far higher in those places we already do those mechanics and is therefore only smoothly doable in those instances.

Personally I'd just like to see more variety in the type of FATEs again. It seems like the FATEs in the newer zones are about 90% "kill enemies" or "kill boss", maybe you'll get a single "defend this person/item" or "pick up this stuff" ones for a bit of variety. But there haven't been any escort-type ones since Shadowbringers (which had literally two in the entire expansion, both in one zone), and there's also the "chase" type that was used for Exactly One FATE in Stormblood and then never again. I'm not sure what they could do for *new* types of FATEs to add onto the ones that already exist, but I'm sure there's at least one thing they could throw in for variety.

I also do wish they'd bring back the "lesser" achievement FATEs. Up to ShB every single zone had a fate with an achievement associated with it, sometimes it was associated with a chain, but there were a bunch of one-offs as well that rewarded a special item and gave an achievement. The one-off ones in particular I think would be a really good fit for the CE-likes people seem to want in the main overworld.

    Nice bump.

FATES should be at the same levels of Critical Encounters in Field Operations. They're practically the same thing already except one is boring and the other is not.

Also I'd love to see a FATE log, more unique rewards and more changes to the area if we complete/fail them. And definitely more variety. There used to be points of interests entirely dedicated to FATEs in ARR that would flesh out the world, but I'm seeing this less and less.

I gave up on fates a long time ago as they are just so boring they need some fresh ideas.

The one thing I need is to be able to turn off the notification saying I have joined the fate when I have not >.<

Man, this is a great thread, I love these suggestions and would really love more FATE Relevancy. Them getting some love to be fun again would be excellent, I really want to enjoy them more and love the concept, but they need work.

More rewards for FATES is a huge yes from me, please. And I'd love if older fates were made relevant too! So people could pick any FATEs if they like a particular zone and they could scale.

I dunno, I'd need to think about a lot of my thoughts on FATES, but either way it's content I enjoy and would love to be expanded, lots of great ideas in this thread. +1 to OP, can't think of anything I wouldn't enjoy mentioned in post 1 ^^

For the love of gods, this game should be more alt-friendly. At least drop the story requirements if you've completed it on one character & share shop purchases with the entire account, bare minimum.
