As others have said Christmas isn't as big of a deal as New Years is to Japan, so if they were going to pick one to interrupt it would be Christmas. Not to mention MANY people don't even celebrate Christmas too so it makes sense. The only ones that are going to retaliate are likely the NA crowd and some of the EU crowd.

Japan literally treats Christmas as mearly a day for people to give their loved ones sweets and treats and maybe have a small party while continuing to work.
They are more into celebrating New Years, where New Years Events/Day and some days surrounding those two are family holidays, and some places close during the time. If anything, posting the raid before going on possibly their own breaks from work makes the most sense in a way.
Also like Vrankyl said, it's only a big deal with certain Western countries; other places, while they have their own holiday traditions, don't treat it the same way we do.

If you can't deal with a holiday vacation patch you gotta touch some grass. Every online game does this to try to pull you into playing it because they know a lot of consumers would have time off.

I don't do savage and having content to do on holidays is good for people that get to have free time from work to play!
My only issue with it coming out near Christmas is that it's 2 months away of not much to do

I hope the part 1 atleast has something for us to be hyped about as opposed to extremely predictable "We're adding more MSQ and a new dungeon/trial !!!!11!!!!one!!!"

Releasing new and awaited content during a family holiday where most people won't be able to log in is certainly a choice. Taking international money and then retreating behind the "jp game" rational when people ask why you're ignoring major international holidays is also a choice.

I don't raid, so I couldn't care less about savage, but I'd be surprised if they were dumb enough to drop a release on Xmas.

Pretty sure I saw a JP thread asking the same since it's a pretty busy time of the year regardless, wrapping up work and preparing for new years.

Outside some QoL and possibly the housing update and raidplanner I only really expect the MSQ with Dungeon+Trial and Raids for 7.4, and since the raid is kind of the big content of the patch it's understandable there's folks who care about having the time to do week1, but I also don't want them to have another excuse to delay patches any more than they have.
