I for my part am mostly satisfied with how the jobs are. I was more afraid that they would mess around in 8.0 too much and turn the jobs into something completely different. I really like most of the jobs, what i dont like is the fight design. I find that too hectic and stressful. DDR mechanics that constantly force you to run around and never havea break. Also that is the reason why jobs play the way they play now. Every job has to be able to handle the hectic fights at all times. I remember Yoshi saying sometjing like we will feel where they are headed with 7.2 and 7.3 already. So BLM for example wont see much changes in 8.0 if you ask me. That is already the direction. It is already "modernized". Also did anyone really expect them to rework 21 jobs, release 2 new jobs and make them all feel vastly unique? Not gonna happen. They get 2 or 3 rework per expansion done usually. If anyone has high expectation for massive job changes then please dont. Because that will not happen. Some things will change. Small things that might add up. I tbink MrHappy has a vety realistic opinion on tbis. Watch his video.

I'm discouraged. This is more or less a nothingburger interview and I'll still be waiting for official news drops next year... but yeah I'm discouraged and feeling deflated.

My guess is that there will be a lot of changes to the jobs in 8.0, but it won't be enough to satisfy the people in the forum.
The same people that now act like there will be no changes in 8.0, will get angry in a year from know that there isn't enough changes.

Something that I think needs to be said as well is that these two “sides” of the job design discussion don’t need to be at odds with each other. We should all want the job design landscape to be fun and engaging for all of us, because that helps the game thrive. I don’t want the job design landscape to become hostile and unfriendly to casual players and beginners. I want it to feel easy to jump into, but also have room to improvise, choices to make with your gameplay, and opt-in elements of optimization.

The current design paradigm has no room for those in most jobs which is why there’s a desire to see reworks, and I think people content with the current direction would find that there are still ways to keep jobs simple at a baseline and feel quite similar to now if the right reworks were made. We aren’t trying to take the game away from you. We’re begging the devs to stop trying to kick us out.

Chances are the nuance was lost in translation like it usually does....
So how do you simultaneously make big changes that make them more unique and not change anything for people that like them as they are?

"Within the MSQ, we can't always provide a unique expression for the jobs in every patch," Yoshida says. But "when it comes to using the jobs in battle content and bringing out more of that uniqueness of each job, we are working on a big update." Before Dawntrail even launched, Yoshi-P had teased that he wanted to counteract 'class homogenization' in an overhaul that was planned for 8.0.

"People might think of it as an expansion of the system that we have in the game. So the players who already like the way things are can feel at ease that nothing is going to change for their experience. But we are trying to do something new on top of what we already have."

"In terms of the individuality of each job and also showcasing the player character to the fullest in terms of how they are the hero of the game, we want to continue placing importance on both of these aspects moving forward."

I hope they'll realize that the original players the game attracted were specifically attracted to the game for a model that is NOT compatible with what we're being served right now. If people that are happy with what they currently have will continue to be happy, then I'm afraid I won't be able to be happy myself. There is no in between there. We're not the same audience.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but that's the ugly truth of it.
Probably the only thing I could really interpret from that is that the 2min meta is staying. The question (if this speculation is right) is how they're going to build up this allegedly de-homogenization around such a strict buff window.

Well, at least this gave me a sense of catharsis, because at least he came out and said it right now instead of me having to wait until Fan Fest or something for him to say that, guess I'll be sticking with WoW and other games for the foreseeable future.

They can't. The 2-min meta is like a malignant cancer that has metastasize and infected all parts of this game for the worse.

Job design, skill and ability design, character stats, and boss fights are all designed and/or severely limited by the 2-minute combat system.

The devs struggled with this expansion to add any meaningful skills or abilities because most jobs GCD rotations are extremely rigid and already don't have any room to add an additional GCD during fillers without under/overcapping resources, nor do they have any room to add another GCD during their 2-min burst cycle.

Which is why most jobs got boring af oGCDs or some useless ability that doesn't even work in any content.

There is zero room left for job growth with this combat system. If this supposed "big job update" still has 2-min buffs on every job, it just shows how lazy and incompetent these Devs are.

It's crazy just how much the 2-min buff window idea was pushed so hard a few expansions ago as a solution to a problem that really wasn't a problem. Seeing that rare time everyone had their buffs align and getting the biggest, thickest, nastiest numbers was too hard a drug to resist, and now job feel is reduced to what color the attack is because the buffs and skills and fights are all built around 2 minute timers.
