    Cape Bones for Gear

Given how obsessed the devs are with tacking floor-length capes onto every set they can get away with (personally I'd rather they just didn't, but alas I'm not in charge of anything), you'd think they would've added dedicated bones for them so they aren't glued to the character's back for most of their length...

I love that idea. If they did that, they could even add fashion accessories for capes, long scarves and flowy fabrics that also use them!

As someone that hates the current capes with a passion (and the fact that almost all tank gear since Endwalker has one tacked onto it) I'm fine with either choice, but not what we currently have.

Because right now we got the worst of both worlds, the giant floor-length fabric that hides most of the outfit's detail from behind with the stiffness of cardboard that someone duct-taped to your back.

I'd love some capes to have a tail toggle.

I know some people hate when they hide the tails, but there are some items that it makes sense to do so, for example:

How it makes any sense to have a tail poking out of this?

PLEASE. If League of Legends can have cape physics while looking like an N64 game, this game can surely have them.

Square originally had those bones for the odin herkladae outfit a full flowing cap like something out of spawn... but they then cut it because ps3 could not handle it J:

we're years out from ps3 and it has not been added back

More than a few weapons are also glued to a character's back (when sheathed), so unless you want capes to clip through said weapons, SE would also need to do something about that.

You at least have the option to hide your weapon, can't do that with capes.

Which I certainly wouldn't mind either as an option, I always made the cloaks in WoW invisible.
But with a lot of the chestpieces in this game they are built into the model, there would just be a big hole if you remove the cape.

Not a bad idea but doesn't that limit them from being included in raids and dungeons?

Not necessarily, if a specific slot was added for them in the case they are optional. Your glasses don't go away during duties. Your visor stays the way you left it during duties as well.

If they are not optional, it's fairly simple and the tech is already in the game to do it: Some pieces of gear can load extra bones to help with movement, like the poncho from SMN's Glyphic chestpiece. They just need to make a specific set of bones for capes, and make them load whenever a chestpiece with a cape is equipped. Though I think going back, separating all the capes, assigning and rigging them to those new bones would be a pain.
