Well yes and I mention it in my original post, which you clearly did not read. The recommendations window just isn't useful for anything beyond what quests and fates are up in that area.
But it wont show you things beyond an area.

You know you could have just posted a single post, isntead of 3. Anyway...

Your Journal is not an intuitive window to check things fast on where you need to go. Ideally you would want that info to be at your fingertips easily. Not by cycling through your journal entires to see where the quest even is in the first plase. Is it part of the side quests, or is it some of the other tabs in the journal? Maybe it's in the MSQ?
And when you finally find that it's in the Chronicles of the New Era tab, you gotta read a bunch of text to see where the quest left off and often enough it wont even tell you where the quest is at, it just tells you the location that quest happened in, but it could have left off in a different area. So now you've spent possibly 5 or more minutes just to find the relvant info you want, which means it's alot easierto just google where to go, but if you feel the need to google things, well the game is at fault.

I will actually go check in-game if the journal is helpful at all on this part...

    the last quest for the alliance raid 1 is called Jeuno, it ends with the sentence;

"To pass the time, Bakool Ja Ja suggests they go on a journey, exploring the lands of Tural. The two are keen to answer the call of adventure, hopeful the experience will steel them for the battles to come."

And there is no link to where this quest is or where it would start again. You just have to remember that it ended in Tuliyolal.
So no, not even the journal would help you to find the quest location.

It isn't even Bakool Ja Ja who you get the quest from. You get it from an NPC called "Landsguard Messenger" in Tuliyolal.

For all we know Bakool Ja Ja hangs around at the taco shop.

Yes, but they shouldn't invent a new thing when the thing they have is meant to serve the same purpose but doesn't. They should fix recommendations.

It's actually insane to me that you think that's a good design decision for a game to make. To ask the player without even telling them to remember that Bakool Ja Ja is part of the Landsguard and that because Bakool Ja Ja is in the questline, it must mean the quest location is in the Landsguard area.

I just watched a video of someone going into 7.3 alliance raid and had completely forgotten where the first part of the raid took place and had to pick up his phone to look up where this new content was happening.

And this is an issue that I come across all too often, not only with .x patches, but with moogle events and cross over events. I have to look outside the game to find the information where is the NPC giving me the event quest.

And considering patches and events are generally something that you would want to make more players to go and check out. I think it would be great to have a sort of "what's happening" window that pops up at log-in.

Obviously you should be allowed to disable that entirely if you don't want it to show up ever.

I know there is already the "recommendations" window, but that thing is barely worth looking at since it only shows whats going on in a given area.

While I am against blatant advertisement pop-ups I think it is important for the game to advertise it's own content in some way and you could have artists submit artpieces for the pop-up message for a given moogle event and it shows in-game, much like the ads on the website and launcher already have.

I dunno, I just like the sense of community it brings when the game is like; "hey go check this out, there's alot of cool prizes" and it's an easy one click to track sort of thing to see where the NPC is at. Even for things like the Alliance Raid.

Heck, I personally took a 6month break since 7.0 and when I returned and wanted to see the key features they were hidden in some nonsense areas, like the cosmic exploration quest was in Old Sharlyan of all places and I had to google to find it.

It's so unintuitive especially when you don't want to constantly check things from patch notes or from your phone in general.

It could also include you general daily list for Hunts, Roulette, Wonderous Tails etc.
There has to be something going for that to work lol. Welcome back to FFXIV. Still the same.

Having been on a break for a few months, just playing sporadically, I have many things to catch on.
An upgrade of the recommendation tool would be greatly appreciated!

As someone who plays a lot of mobile games I really don't want to see any more pop ups in games.

However, I do agree that the small message in the chat window with a short "oh btw this is a thing kthxbye" is not sufficient. I don't know what a good middle ground would be. I like Valence's idea of utilizing the journal for stuff like raid series, but imho it would be a bit much for seasonal events. Maybe just a Moogle Mail with the NPC coordinates and questname, signaled by a blinking icon in the corner? We already have blinking letter icons for GM messages and store stuff, might as well make a yellow or green one for seasonal events.

Making the recommendation window anything that's worth paying attention to might also be a good idea, although I disable this fast as soon as I am done with my hunting log in ARR areas for a new job, because I really don't need a list for FATEs and stuff, so I might miss out on stuff regardless... But that's a "me" issue.
