Which is not good. Just cause you've played 10000hours and know how the devs make new content doesn't mean it's well made and you should just know to travel to all these towns. For players who take breaks and forget where they left off etc it's really unintuitive to find the new content.

Once you complete the first tier, quests show as complete, but the Vanadiel category still stays active, and the next patch that introduces new content, it should be blinking with a ! or one of those green dots indicating there is new quests and content, and pointing where is the next pick up. To me it's like, basic info and usability?
Well yea curretntly the journal does have "Chronicles of the new era - Echoes of Vanadiel", but as said that only gets updated when you do a quest related to it, it doesn't really help you find where the quest ended. Speak nothing of the fact that navigating the journal takes a PhD to find anything in there. So whil e it would probably be useful to have these "!" blinking icons in the journal as well, it doesn't really fix the underlying issue of showing the layer what's currently going on in the world and where to find that stuff, just due to how difficult the journal is to navigate.

Yoou could still have it presented to you in some immersive and worldbuildy way. Like let's say the weatherkeepers started a new and improved system to bring you the latest news and it's this journal type thing that you can personally adjust if you want it to show-up on log-in, during scheduled events or only when you yourself open it and it shows things going around in the world.

Personally I think that sort of thing could actually improve the sense of community in the game when everyone sees the sort of "hot news" easily and it's at their fingertips with ease of access instead of running around town like a headless chicken finding random NPC's.

What I meant is that many returning players who overall might have a tiny /playtime have done the "break and return" thing countless times and are used it. In that sense, it amounts to a new player question.

I see no reason for them not to put it in for players eligible for the newest patch content, because there are other MMORPGs that do it, but I think SE's way of doing it of "teleport to the newest city states" is workable. It becomes rather clear once you beat ARR and see blue quests all over Mor Dhona.

They do technically state the starting location in patch notes for all new quests, but a lot of people are unable to read even when the announcement is in front of them at login.

Forcing players to read patch notes is exactly the issue. I know I kind of jumped ahead there, but players generally do not want to go out of the game once they log-in to see the information.

The point really isn't that "because other MMO's do it", but that it is one way to guide a player to the correct place after an update. Like I said I saw someone had literally forgotten where the latest Alliance Raid had taken place, so the only option he had was to either google where the quest left off, cause quests can end in totally random locations OR he would have been forced to go through every teleport location in Dawntrail and check the map for the blue icon. This situation directly challenges the notion that players who do the "break and return" somehow just know where to go, when they clearly don't.

And assuming that they do know where to go IS the issue. You gotta look at it from a perspective of younger players also and from those that are not so tech savvy that they understand look things up. Even if they've played alot of hours they could very well be missing key information about something new happening in the game cause the game never really tries to show the player what is happening unless you know where to look.

they should just add another tab in the quest journql for started questlines.
sorted in msq, jobquests, content quest lines, other blue quests and yellow quests.
so it shows you the next quest in line.

sure jobquests and msq already have a solution but more options are allways nice.
some people might prefer it and you could even delet that msq bar

That sure is an interesting design to count on player's years of experience to make up for the lack of pointers.

Journal additions would help, but it wouldn't help with newly added quests all that much. Like if they add somehting entirely new and the questline starts in Solution Nine, there's still the problem of how players would find it.
But yea, it would be great for unfinished questlines or quests that get updates after a patch. And it would be a smaller fix for a larger problem.

    Fun fact:
    • October 2021: I first complete the Orbonne raid.
    • January 2024: I finally complete the Ivalice quest line.
Back in 2021, I apparently just did not notice that the Wandering Dramaturge still had a quest marker, and because he's in the out-of-the-way airship, there was effectively nothing in the game to remind me.

Something that lists quests that I can undertake, no matter what map region they're in, would be a fine addition to the game.

Don't we already have this? It's called Recommendations. They should just expand on it and make it more useful.
