That is the situation. Looking at the data available, people's complaints fell on deaf ears. As a result of this, they did not come back for later patches and probably would not come back for future patches at all. It takes years to nurture newcomers into a dedicated audience, after all.

I've seen some people claim that the (potential) 7.5 Ultimate will save the expansion, but that's far from realistic. Ultimates cater to 5% of the playerbase when they're current. Some streamers argue that these fights could revive interest based on their viewer numbers, but more casual and midcore players don't need an active FFXIV subscription to watch Twitch.

Even if Ultimates had more appeal, it's easy to see why they wouldn't "save" anything in the bigger picture. By the time we get the 7.5 Ultimate, we should already be playing the next expansion. In fact, we should be on patch 8.05, with a new Savage tier. The 2.5-year expansion cycle was introduced during the pandemic, but Square Enix choosing to stick with it is one of the biggest things holding FFXIV back right now.

A tinfoil hat theory, but I suspects a reason for the ultimate delay is because it's being made with pre 8.0 job changes in mind. But also they don't want to repeat Endwalker, and have back to back ultimates.

I mean, it wasn't MSQ players and RPers that needed the recent BLM changes, it was because of the new Savage tier and Forked Tower.

I did say 'pre 8.0' changes. I suspect there will be more changes 7.4 onwards, and maybe even 7.3 as we are now in the transition period between Dawntrail, and 8.0. I think 7.4 especially will have some of 8.0's fingerprints on it as we will be getting the last ilevel increase of the expansion, and that gear, ideally should be compatible with both current jobs, and what they will be in 8.0 as it will be handed out to boosters, and will be used as catch up gear for players starting after Dawntrail is over.

ffxiv doens't need "saving." Most recent lucky banch census states 880k active players... msq andies and giga casuals provide SE a "soft landing." If there is an ROI (which there is) it's not in need of "saving."

Also your math is very wrong about "By the time we get the 7.5 Ultimate, we should already be playing the next expansion. In fact, we should be on patch 8.05, with a new Savage tier."

    6.0 - Dec 7th 2021

    That's 665 days

    7.0 - July 2nd 2024
    7.5 - Projected Release Date (Following DT's 19 week patch cycle) April 28th 2026

    Also 665 days

You... clearly don't understand what I said. I'm not implying SE should keep the post pandemic schedule. That's exactly what I'm criticizing.

Did you forget they said moving forward, patch cycles will be 4+ months? This is irrespective of the pandemic.

I didn't. Again, that's what I'm criticizing. The new cycle isn't acceptable, considering how profitable FFXIV is compared to its early days. They managed to keep a 2-year cycle until the end of Stormblood.

We're not in the middle of a pandemic anymore. They've released 4 Savage tiers and 3 Ultimates within 2.5 years in the past. Now this is the time to finish one expansion. They can do better.

With as bad as I keep hearing OC and FT turned out, I feel like they should get that fixed first, before launching some other major piece of battle content that will require god knows how much post-launch tinkering.

Directors and producers in the games industry say lots of stuff, nothing is set in stone, ever.

OC was boring, and we're only getting 2 all of DT lol
FT, while it did have issues (instance prog before the hotix) wasn't as bad as some NA casuals make it out to be. Getting into the FT was the most annoying part. FT itself is fine (i'd argue too easy, dps checks are basically non existent).
