Then speak more clearly. Why, if the community is being targeted, were you exempt from a report then? It doesn't sound like a specific group was being targeted if you yourself are a part of said community and were not targeted when you were part of the same conversation and also said something you knew was bad.

Your stories are not helping your case and it sounds more and more like a personal beef.

Prolly violated FFXIV rule #1: do not ever talk using the ingame chat. Everything can be used against you by twisting the PoV. This is usually not a problem because JP players don't talk in MMOs anyways and you should adopt that behavior.

The community in question has recently been targeted by homophobic abuse on Youtube. This may or may not be related but the in-game bans only just started happening. This is the biggest issue! I don't know if its a personal beef or another attack on the community because the GM refuse to tell us who and why. The system as is allows both, with no way to combat.

Has anyone else had issues with being harassed by other players using the in-game report system? Since the GM's refuse to discuss, who, what and why they were reported the system can be, and is, used to harass players by reporting players they don't like.

Contrary to popular belief, I know how to behave myself. :<
If you are polite to others, and do not grief them using ingame mechanics (like doing a sitting strike in a dungeon or abusing the vote-kick system with buddies) no matter how often you are reported, the GM will never find anything to even contact you about.

In general, GMs are VERY sensitive in this game. Think twice before speaking and deploy Japanese level of politeness when discussing personal/social stuff. Ranting about ingame mechanics is fine, just don't use a too fruity language.

The stories I can tell about my experiences with violence and hatred blow most of my straight friends minds.

I'm genuinely sorry to hear that. Difference of opinion and heated discussions are one thing but no one should go through that just because of different preferences.

So now you are trying to deflect because it may be a homophobic attack but it also may not be, yet you are going on here and claiming that it is because of YT? You need more details my man. Calling out homophobia is something we all should do, but we should also make sure its homophobia first because not doing so just causes more problems for us as a whole.

I am just trying to make sense out of this entire story because even with minor poking I am finding a lot of holes in it and as a proud member of the lgbt community myself, I am so tired of this knee-jerk reaction of yelling homophobia when it could be a completely different thing going on. It causes us so many issues.

Look I'm not saying it wasn't but your story is full of holes and feels really knee jerky. And as someone who has dealt with this for 30+ years you need to give us more than what you are. And it is a messed up system put in place for very odd reasons, but don't cry wolf when it may be just a fox and you just aren't sure.

Because you don't have a clear issue. Stop trying to turn this around on me and making it seem like I don't take these issues seriously lol.

I will stand shoulder to shoulder with my community, but only when there is a clear issue that needs me to stand with them. I am not going to defend you because someone was mean to you in an online game and you think it may or may not be related to who you are. You will always find someone who is mean in a public group, even ppl within your own community, but you need to learn to roll with it and pick your battles. But whatever you do, don't make assumptions as to why they are being mean to you and screaming about real, ongoing and important social issues when they simply could be a jerk. Did they say something homophobic to you? I got your back. Did they say something mean and you think it may be due to homophobia, but aren't entirely sure? Sorry dude, not going to grab a flag and march for that.
