You're not alone at all.I'm probably alone with this opinion but I would rather see no new Jobs. The Devs fail to make our current jobs interesting and balanced, constantly smoothing it down ti make encounter design and hightire raiding as easy on them as possible.
So why wast time and effort on new Jobs who will end the same way.

Remove 3-4 of the current new added jobs since HW jobs, don't add any new jobs as in ever, be more innovative about the current ones and make them fun to play again, we need diversity.
Jobs lost could be like limited jobs available for eg. pvp.
Barbarian! Hammer/mace would work well with that. And yes, no shields for that one, please.
As for some off-the-wall option for the other job... we've already plumbed the arts with dancer, pictomancer, and bard... so how about a spellcaster who either plumbs writer, or actor, for design and how it works?
Writer could write spells in a book, maybe using runes, and then hold up a rune stone to activate the spell? (And/or wave their quill in the air?)
Actor could have masks they pull out and put on, and do some sort of action/pose, then the spell goes off?
Of the two I prefer writer---I think that could be a lot of fun, and give the devs something different to design for actions and effects.![]()

I think the 8.0 job changes are not going to be what most here are expecting. And I think they might do something with the leveling system like either a level squish or freezing progression at level 100 with some kind of side progression system, either which will have a knock on effect on how jobs are designed.
Adding, I'm not gonna cry if they do NOT add new jobs. TBH before they do they might work more on various other issues with current jobs, including but not limited to the overcrowded glam chests (especially for omni/job/craft/gatherer people). I'd also like to see them add one more page to our inventory, our retainers' inventory, and especially, to the FC chests. OMG PLEASE on that last one!
OR... if they are super-addicted to "must add jobs," add only ONE this time.

I do recall them mentioning not wanting to go beyond 100 for leveling, so I'm curious what they intend on implementing. I think something akin to GW2's mastery system would be cool but I'm not sure how well they'd implement something like thatI think the 8.0 job changes are not going to be what most here are expecting. It was awhile ago so I can't recall it completely, but I believe during Mr. Happy's video covering his interview with Yoshi-P, that topic came up and to that question he asked if the community would be happy with thatAdding, I'm not gonna cry if they do NOT add new jobs. I honestly believe no, and so we're bound to get two new jobs
I'd be genuinely surprised if we didn't, but I don't know what more they could do
Blitzballer, for lack of a better term, would be unique and fun, using a ball to attack.
For tanks I'm not really sure
I think a hammer would be fun, as I've seen suggested
I know personally I'd like mage knight, maybe not as a tank but it could still work potentially
but you'd run into the trouble of it being too similar to red mage, even if you primarily use black magic to imbue into your weapons
Beastmaster has used both maces and whips in the past, so I wouldn't be overly surprised if it uses either. One-handed axes are another one.We still need a job specialising in hammers and/or maces, there's not a lot of classic jobs that use them apart from maybe Viking. I could see them being a good choice for a future tank, I'm just unsure on what kind of playstyle they'd offer.
For a ranged physical, we still haven't got a crossbow user. If we're willing to overlap weapon types, I wouldn't mind another bow job for those who want a "pure archer" instead of the bard/archer hybrid we have now. We could make the bows massive and just call them Warbows or something to differentiate. Ranger would be the classic job to reference here. But if I really had a choice, I think I'd like to see a hand-cannon job with Cannoneer; let me lob cannonballs at large packs of mobs, toss out bombs with various effects, and overall just let me unga-bunga with big numbers and explosions.
Other contenders would be a one-handed spear job with a shield (unlikely I think, if given the chance I feel like Square would rather remove shields from PLD), a duel-shield job (ironic considering my last statement), and a whip job (I think you could make a case for whips being a ranged weapon, they are meant to have a long reach).
Is there any chance they'll use the sub-job system like FFXI?
Would there be any interest?
i personally forsee a level squish because next expansion is a stat squish anyways plush there is no real alternative that 14 can do without completely uprooting its foundation and throwing players off at lvl 100plus (because we will always have levels they will just be called something else.)I think the 8.0 job changes are not going to be what most here are expecting. And I think they might do something with the leveling system like either a level squish or freezing progression at level 100 with some kind of side progression system, either which will have a knock on effect on how jobs are designed.
if se does skill trees it will be flat here is 10 lvls and 10 points to put into 10 things, and it will just be flat lvls just called a fake tree, if they do sub jobs it will just be a set thing starting over at lvl 1 with 10 lvls per expansion, if they do mastery its just levels called mastery and you will get 10 every expansion. SE can't change its fundamental system and people won't get that til they see SE not change it.
job wise i want a stiener esc tank where they are melee but get to use like fire/ice/thunder sword like attacks
p-range i would like a job with a space gun more sci-fi than normal gun like we have course with SE any weapon can be turned into ranged look at chakrams.
