There's multiple threads already. The solution that seems to be working for people is to reinstall or repair Microsoft Edge WebView2 which is part of the system requirements for the game.

If you're using Linux, it seems you are out of luck, though. I don't believe XIV "officially" supports or works on Linux.

I'm unable to install or reinstall/repair Microsoft Edge WebView2. It's not shown as installed and the installer exe instant closes when i run it.
Just include what's needed in the launcher exe. Why are you forcing us to install third party software to play the game?!?!¨
Been more than a day where i can't play the game!

    Edit:

I found a solution posted in another thread:

    1) Edit FFXIV_BOOT.CFG and change value of line WebView2RuntimeInvalid from 0 to 1.
    2) Use Protontricks/Winetricks to uninstall WebView2.

The CFG file is in your Proton/Wine prefix for the game. Folder where you can find it is:

    Code:
    <prefix>/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/
(My use case is Arch Linux with Steam version of the game.)
Change WebView2RuntimeInvalid 1 in your /Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/FFXIV_BOOT.CFG and it seems to work. Works on Windows too. Let's hope SE doesn't remove this option so we can actually play the game.
