It's to throttle people from dogpiling one DC. It has nothing to do with the overall player population.

Before the restrictions that number was zero at all hours of the day.

The game being dead on every DC outside of Aether is not "working great." The entire reason the restrictions were put in place was because swaths of the game were nigh unplayable if you were anywhere else.

Yeah because people totally dont go there on off-peak hours and park their characters there.

Also lol @ the game being dead on every DC minus aether, every game has dedicated servers, WoW also had specific servers for specific content and hell even specific factions, many other MMO's have such things, people always dogpile on specific servers for X or X thing, this isnt an FFXIV thing nor is it abnormal, but thankfully SE managed to convince you that people wanting to play with others is not a normal thing to want.

Primal has PVP, Crystal has RP, Aether has content, the only servers that dont really have a "focus" are on Dynamis because it's very much dead.

EU also has the same, Light is for content and Chaos is more laidback and is basically just people hanging out.

    Edit for typos

This isn't directed at you, but more of a vent to this perspective:

I am going to be honest here, I really dislike that the community "labeled" the datacenters, because every datacenter was doing all 3 of those things before DC travel came in. Both Aether and Primal have their own RP scene. All 3 DCs could do PvP, raiding varied, but all 3 DCs could do it. (Crystal's ultimate scene was sprouting just a tiny bit before DC travel uprooted it.) Dynamis will be no different if it has a chance to get on its feet. What makes a working DC is everything the game can offer, and not just one piece of it.

Some focus on some things a little more, but it was all there for the most part. I just wish we could not label them based off their popular activity. It really doesn't help the new players who come in without a shred of knowledge of the communities and just get lumped into a group based off where they made their character, or worse; can't play a lot of the game due to it.

We really should stop with the labeling. Datacenters are communities; not playgrounds for one particular activity.
