Be really great if the FFXIV story could quit getting derailed by insertions from other FFs.

Dunno about ff13, but it was loved by JP audiences last I heard.
Agree to disagree with FF15. The writing may have issue, but I love it regardless. No need to be rude about it though.
NO. I do not want another alternate world/dimension type story. I want to be in the Source, my home and the world I care about.
Lyse is great if you play in Japanese. The English VA totally butchered her character.
We went from I/III to IV to IX, they're not really doing it in any particular order. Though I do like a lot of the references as a lifetime FF fan, I kinda hope this isn't just becoming a pattern. ARR-SB were some of the best chunk of the MSQ and having the newer expacs follow the "Main MSQ, some nods, post-patches, beeg reference" model is getting a little stale. Like, it's good fan service, great even this patch, but most of the playerbase never even touched another FF title and it's depressing being the only one in the party to get hyped over *reference to obscure NES/SNES/PS1/PS2 game.* Heck even XIII, as much as I didn't care for it overall, can be considered retro today which is kind of terrifying.
Meracydia. Fill the rest of the story in for yourself, but that's where I would love to go. Estinien, Alphinaud and Thancred with me, the rest stays putt.
Don't look back, that's not the way you're going.
Before DT I would agree with you, but by now I don't care anymore if the story took place in Source or other shards. That said I'm still coping they'll do ilsabard expansion
Please... no. I'm so sick of Garlemald. They started out as an annoying, arrogant, aggressive bunch and ended up as an annoying, arrogant, whiny bunch. The nameless grunts are always incompetent - on a good day at least. And every guy with a name is a complete psychopath - except the defectors, they are angels walking amongst us. Alphisae chasing the achievement to kiss the butt of every Garlean past, present and future didn't help matters. So if I had one wish for the future direction of the game.... no more Garleans, please.
I can only guess the next expansion will be in Meracydia or somewhere in the north (winter expansion?). But I'd rather it wasn’t—I wish we could actually travel to another reflection with a modern theme, like FFVII, FFVIII or FFXV. After Solution 9, I hope they stick with a modern setting rather than going back to classic fantasy.
I would love 8.0 to be inspired by FFXIV. Give us sometihng unique. Not everything has to be inspired by other games in the series and I would love to see them do their own thing for a bit instead of rehashing old games, esp since they don't always do it too great and it gets extremely limiting since they cannot stray too far from their inspiration without backlash. Sometimes they take a great story and a great character and make it into a complete Zero.
They at least need to better incorporate the references into the setting. Both the Void arc and everything with Alexandria fall far too close to bad retellings and could almost pass for crossovers. The Crystal Tower story and everything stemming from that was reframed to the point that it doesn't feel out of place despite the visuals, music, and names coming from FFIII.I would love 8.0 to be inspired by FFXIV.
