By nerfing this, they keep the other means of leveling alive, which is important to keep people doing roulettes or busy in the overworld. So ya, you probably dont see it, but it was an important change for the sake of the gameThe nerf doesn't mean anything of course.
But what does it signal? Think about it.
Why did they go out of their way to nerf this when it bothered no one? And every decision and change like this is debated in CBU3 btw. It isn't just adding a conditional check in their code. They would have had to talk about this, debate about this, put this on Yoshi P's precious calendar.
What does this say about their priority? About what they consider important? About their vision? Think about this. Seriously. Because it's not about the nerf, it reveals something deeply troubling about their priorities and attitude.
