SE is in serious danger of losing many players with these features for WoW housing since every player would have their own home. They need to add instanced housing along with those features in that article.

Yep... this is what i predicted.. that SE is in danger territory.
A hope is that bright light burning within each and everyone of us!
Fundamentally it is instanced. And so is FFXIV's housing. Wards are instances. The big difference between WoW and FFXIV's systems is that WoW's system will dynamically scale as demand increases, and allows for the creation of private instances/wards, while FFXIV's housing system (and honestly - sharding/instance system in general) relies on manual intervention from the developers.
...I swear, when will CS3 learn of the existence of Kubernetes?
In wondering if a players can freely wander into these or do you need to be on a list to be allowed to view it.Fundamentally it is instanced. And so is FFXIV's housing. Wards are instances. Like if you dropped you plots address, I would be able to go find it as it's a semi permanent part of the game, you have a footprint in this game as long as you continue to use it.
Will it be like island sanctuary? Will it be friends list or "group members" limited? If everyone gets a plot, how would you find your way to mine?

I prefer my home being accessible by the general population since I get random comments in my book here and there and one reason why I love decorating often. In wondering if a players can freely wander into these or do you need to be on a list to be allowed to view it.

Housing is instanced the wards is an instance as well
If you want the full experience you should make FFXIV go towards Star Wars Galaxies city building and owning homes, if anything.
The only thing said so far is that friends would be able to visit. They've said nothing else yet about how they intend to make WoW housing a "deeply social experience".
The second housing blog just got released about how players will be able to decorate interiors and it's looking very similar to what RIFT and Wildstar used. Placement on any axis with rotation and resizing. Now that was something to get me a bit hopeful and excited about it. That really would put some pressure on SE to upgrade the FFXIV housing interface.
But I still don't see WoW housing as being the death of FFXIV. Tribalism is a thing. The FF franchise has a large number of loyal players and housing fanatics are not going to be able to recreate the more realistic designs they're able to make here using WoW's cartoonish art assets.
I wonder this as well to be honest. I would assume you'd be able to provide an address or at least an access link or something. In wondering if a players can freely wander into these or do you need to be on a list to be allowed to view it.

While I don't see WoW housing being the death of FFXIV either, I do think more realistic designs is going to be doable. WoW's Advanced mode has collisions entirely turned off. That being said, I do hope it puts pressure on Square Enix as well, but I'm also not holding my breath, considering the reason they aren't allowing us to place a glamour dresser in our houses is that it'd crash the servers. The only thing said so far is that friends would be able to visit. But of course, the game doesn't have technical debt according to YoshiP, so what do I know.
