If I had to guess: it's because the social vibe of the game is chasing in so many other respects for the worse, such that people are jumping to the defensive quicker not so much because of how the comment affects them, but because of a desperation to preserving XIV as they valued it previously. Also, because general wide spread negativity has drained their resilience.
Lastly because the games centric has changed, and those that remain do so because of traits that... make them to handle things in that way.
