I'm currently running an alt through the MSQ and have just watched the long cutscene before the Ghimlyt Dark featuring Varis and the representatives of the Eorzean Alliance. The writing is spectacular. Nuanced, filled with foreboding, gripping.

The quality far exceeds anything in DT, but would be royally effed up if Lyse had 80% of the dialog.

I also found your take about the monarchy nepo baby to be the funniest and most compelling argument for the writing in DT. It's difficult to give a deep thoughtful discussion on the story because there are so many here who are so quick to add thoughtless opinions on a topic already sensitive to many here. #Youregoneedstodiefirst

honestly I just think the hunt for the gold city should have been the whole expension because I felt the first half was better then the second but I still feel we should have been able to just go in and about you know like a vacation>~>

The aftermath of the literal end of days visiting should have been about half of an expansion by itself. Then it would have been neat to have had a adventure across Tural while the succession crisis unfolds in the background, we can touch on it now and then, the same way that ARR handled the political machinations in Ul'dah. That way we actually have fun and a break, there's time to do lore in a far better way, Wuk Lamat doesn't get the screentime to be so annoying and characters who deserve that screentime far more (Krille) can get it. 7.X patches could then have been the build up for Alexandria in 8.0, maybe it starts with unusual thunderstorms and phenomena where Alexandria will drop in and with each patch it gets worse until finally 8.0 arrives with the opening scene being the arrival of the dome.

The horrible gameplay was already there since ShB, I think a lot of people just didnt want to see it because the story was great for them.

Is part of the issue that dungeons and trials have to be (by formula) spliced into the MSQ at regular, predetermined intervals. Thus we can never really have a vacation because periodically we need a crisis that requires us to blap the snot out of something.

I suppose we could have been sitting on the beach when a flock of seagulls swept down and stole our tacos, but it's going to be a struggle to construct a (2xmob + boss)x3 scenario centered on seagulls. Plus we could just buy more tacos.
