My assumption is they'll just be like Aymeric, Hien, Lyse, Raubahn, Chai-Nuzz and Jullus/Maxima - long forgotten characters that were placed in charge of the city states we invaded.

So once we've got them settled in their new role as ruler of the liberated area, we'll be on our way like usual to invade and liberate another city.
