Lyse didn't steal any spotlight but the WoL's, and not at the cost of stealing your achievements or stunting the other characters' development (Alisaie, Hien, Gosetsu, Yugiri, Fordola, etc).
She was the MC of the expansion but only in the Ala Mhigo portions. And she was written like a real person instead of an ideological super hero (Wuk) who uses 100k+ words to repeat the same two things: Peace and happiness

Lyse was obnoxious because she felt entitled and claimed she learned her lessons and suddenly turned against them the very next scene.
She was childish and honestly, M'naago should've been the leader of the resistance, but Lyse had that nepotism power (which to be fair, fits in the worldbuilding).
Lyse had a goal, Wuk Lamat failed as a character because she was shoved everywhere and everyone automatically loved her / wanted to learn from her. Koana's own motivation just crumbles into dust, Bakool Ja Ja has a one day 180 turn. Wuk Lamat is surface level, she doesnt have her own motivations, she's there to uphold "Papa's peace" and along her way just tempers people because the plot demands it.
The writing is juvenile. Wuk Lamat isnt the problem, the WRITING IS
At least, in Stormblood, 3/4 of the quests objectives wasn't "Talk to Lyse".
Don't get me wrong, I loved Wuk Lamat when she was introduced pre-DT, because she was very fleshed and cheerful, and I was like "Oh my girl, I think you're getting to be smack by the cruelty of the world" and I was looking forward to see her overcome struggles who may come in her way. I play with JP voices and her actress is very good imo. But at the end of the first DT part, I was overfed with WL. No real struggles, eveything handed to her very conveniently, it was getting ridiculous.
Such a missed opportunity ruined by bad writting.

I liked Wuk in 6.5, she gave me light Karlach vibes back then. However, in DT, I started to dislike the character as the story progressed, and then "SpHeNe" happened, which was the final straw for me. So, just because I don’t like the character, her performance, or other aspects, does that automatically make me transphobic? I could honestly talk for hours about what I think is wrong with Wuk as a character and how, in my opinion, she could have been handled better, without even touching on her English VA, which is a whole separate topic. Let’s just say, if you know, you know, she’s not exactly a great person sometimes.People comparing Lyse to Wuk Lamat really dont know what they are talking about, to be honest. Other than ''female lead that I dislike''.
Wuk Lamat gets too much dialogue and thats about it, but also the loudest haters of her are mostly transphobes that are grabbing into any issue, no matter how minor or non-existent. People are expecting way too much emotional payoff and ''epic'' moments out of DT. The devs said like add nauseum that DT was going to be the ARR of a new arc - wanting DT to hit the same highs that ShB/EW is not only delusional but also its not sustainable. WoW suffers of this, the constant power scaling has been awful for the game's story.
I guarantee you, no sane person ever expected DT to be on the same level as ShB or EW. But being bored to death by the story or feeling like a character is being forced upon you is just awful. If you don’t like the character, it’s hard to enjoy the story as a whole. Sure, ShB and EW had their ups and downs, and I can agree or disagree with criticisms there, but you can’t say, “Don’t expect DT to be like ShB or EW for good moments,” and then use those expansions to justify bad moments in DT. That’s hypocritical, dude.
As for the comment about how "3–4 characters (all darker-skinned) get killed off or sidelined to make Lyse practically queen of Ala Mhigo," I think it’s important to ask, are we not allowed to write stories where fictional characters die just because they’re darker-skinned? Would you say the same about characters like Haurchefant, Minfilia, or Emet-Selch? Or was it okay for them to die because they’re white? Probably not. I think people need to get out of this victim mentality and start seeing the story for what it is. In a fictional narrative, people die regardless of their skin color. That’s just how it works, much like in the real world.
Not liking Wuk Lamat as a character is completely fine, and it doesn’t make someone transphobic or anything like that. In my opinion, Wuk is one of the weaker characters in both the Final Fantasy universe and FFXIV specifically. Compare Wuk to characters like Ysayle, Ryne and Gaia, or even Tataru, who offers far more depth. Wuk just doesn’t measure up, and that’s a valid criticism, not an attack on identity.

You know, this is a good video to just, sit through about pre-dawntrail, characters, and then Dawntrail.
Fray: You spineless sack of shite. I kill your enemies. I fetch your things. I do what you people can't or won't do yourselves.
Fray: You're helpless. Weak. All you do is want and need.
Fray: I should've left you all to drown in Leviathan's tidal wave. At least then I would've been spared your constant bloody whining.
Fray: Do not speak to me of this ever again.
Wuk Lamat is not the issue poor writing and game design is the issue xD
All we wanted in DT was to have a vacation and a tournament arc what we got was a lot of talk to these npcs, fixing half brain social issues for half brain people, with half brain solutions, (food fixes racism who knew) and it just happened that the main npc we talked to was Wuk Lamat xD
If Y'shtola was the main Npc we talked with the writing quality we got In DT she would have just as much hate as Wuk Lamat just being honest with you.
What Dt needed was more action sequences why didn't we fight Thancred and Uri?
Why didn't we storm the meso terminal at the start of Z6?
Have a solo instance where we go in and see the boss for the dungeon but he is unbeatable and we get ejected so we have to go through Z6 and fight and deal with the citizens.
the budget for the looks of the game are there but Why are so few cutscenes voiced??
furthermore MSQ could do with more trials and dungeons msq has 6 dungeons and 3 trials why not make it 9 dungeons and 2 trials? or 5 dungeons and 6 trials? why are the devs boxing themselves in like this? xD
This so much... i get it, doing 10 dungeons for 10 levels is too much, but having a 1-2 more would still be nice, you could change how gear is spread out. And having more trials would be nice as well - especially in this "tournament ark" setting... solo trials are nice, but they are once and done...

The biggest insult to me was Voicing every single battle of the Arkadium but not its cutscenes... like... you got VA there for every Char... you literally casted new ppl... why...
