I agree with you, but there is one exception, if that extra pack will kill you and wipe the party, it's better to let the dps die on their way back to prevent the wipe.If a DPS or healer pulls in front of you as a tank, refusing to grab aggro and watching them die (or not; sometimes the healer or DPS can survive easily) is just petty. It's basically a temper tantrum. It's an "I gotta teach them a lesson" sorta attitude that is frankly kinda cringe.
That's just my opinion! Tanks shouldn't do this!
A significant portion of my ypyt encounters have been on Crystal, and I've played a good bit on most (NA) DCs.I have never encountered a YPYT before, which makes me a bit sad. I keep hearing about these people and it's like waiting for bigfoot to show up. Ofcourse, it doesn't help that I mostly do roulette stuff as a tank. I have one speed during duties, and that is: F A S T. Unless the healer askes me not to pull w2w, that is my default. Sprint on and go crazy. The only time I'll get annoyed is if someone pulls something and then runs off with it, which almost never happens since I'm usually sprinting ahead and using gap closers to hop to packs as soon as they are in range. I will wait for people in cutscenes too. I love this game and the story, and I don't want anyone to feel badly about wanting to watch all the cutscenes they can.
Besides, the people that do try to run ahead and grab stuff are usually the ones that actually know how to push their buttons, which means the duties go by that much quicker.

Had my first YPYT encounter earlier today in Castrum Meridianum. I suspect it was a party of three, so votekicking wasn't an option. The tank was single-pulling, so I ran ahead and grabbed the mobs and pulled them back to him. After the second boss, the healer warned me to not pull ahead of the tank. During the next pull, the three of them held back and refused to engage with the mobs, letting me die in the process, and then refused to rez me. The healer then attempted to kill me via rescue during the last boss fight. Didn't say anything in the chat throughout the whole dungeon.
I reported them and got a GM response shortly afterwards, but I doubt anything will be done about it. I swear, knowing how to press sprint makes you better than 90% of Duty Finder tanks.
I had a healer (mentor) that keeps pulling bosses early when not everyone was caught up to the field.
If a tank wants to be YPYT then they should always be the party leader then. But they're not, so anyone can pull. If you die out of your own foolishness that's one thing. I remember if the tank was afk people would get so heated if you wanted to fight a mob w heals and dps.im sure the tank will feel they really missed out on a trash pull
The only way really you can die to trash mobs (at least in dungeons) these days is if you try to solo a pack.
Stop abusing the Gap closer, or own up to your "everyone is DPS" narrative and make sure you don't immediately die.
Tanks aren't your servants.
You always got that L next to your name, but it never means leader.
Dawntrail is what I imagine the entire MSQ as a healer-main.
