The only thing Instanced housing lacks is a front yard. Apartments and FC rooms don't have front yards and they're widely used. The islands are instanced and they are widely used. People barely look at their yard anyway. They just teleport to the house and walk inside.

There’s no reason instanced couldn’t have a yard though… other games have sprawling estates with multiple buildings on them.

Also no reason apartments couldn’t be given 3 different sizes like houses, with some including outdoor space, be that a small enclosed garden area or a balcony.

An instanced house could be just as equally functional as a ward plot, if not more so, they just have to deal with some way of handling the background scenery, which imo shouldn’t be that difficult with all the beautiful vistas in this game.

Oh I agree that instanced apartments can be greatly improved. I'd shell out a million gil right now for a larger multi-tiered apartment! As it stands, my apartment has 2 floors with the help of lofts. It'd be great if it had no item limit and was as large as a Mansion.

I imagine item limit will never be removed because it's there for performance issues. They don't want you accidently building up your house to the point that every time try to go inside of it your computer/console crashes because there's too many polygons to render. Or rather, the don't want to deal with support tickets from people who over decorated their house and can no longer use it.

Pretty sure interior-expansion (Small>Medium>Large) will cost similarly to the plot of that appropriate size, so 3, 20, 50m gil.

SE should force anyone to demolish any extra plots, refund the Gil spent purchasing it and limit them to just one personal and one FC per world or data center.

That's also not someone who's taking away houses from players who have been struggling to get one for years. Those players are on different worlds and data centers. The housing wards are not a shared resource between worlds. They are world specific.

The only reason some players manage to get an entire ward is no players were interested in purchasing houses in the ward when it opened. It's not difficult to slowly fill a ward over time when no other players want to own there.

If those complaining about not being able to get a house had bothered to go to the Dynamis worlds, they'd have a house. Even now they can still get a house, though they may be out of luck if they want a medium or large.

I still place the majority of the blame on SE for the system design. Fully instanced housing is far more flexible when servers are going to vary in population and players tend to get attached to the world they create their character(s) on. This problem should have been foreseen.

But players need to accept part of the blame themselves for not taking advantage of the opportunity when presented if owning a house is that important to them. Data center travel is not the major inconvenience that some fear outside the very heavy congestion periods for the first few days of a new content release. I was using it quite often, mostly between Crystal and Dynamis, and rarely had to wait more than a minute when travelling.

With the current supply issue, detaching the workshop from house ownership seems like a reasonable way to mitigate the problem (though not remove it). It would at least discourage new plots from being taken by the sub farms when other players don't step up to buy them as new wards get added or houses otherwise become available.

Both are capable of existing together. Make the entrance to fully instanced housing a place within the wards and foot traffic in the wards could increase to the benefit of the ward house owners.

That's the main problem with the wards. Unless you happen to have a house next to a very large and active FC, a ward is always going to feel empty. If the wards are only going to have one player in them 98% of the time, housing might as well be instanced.
