My main pet-peeve with Dawntrail, having recently completed the MSQ but not yet completed the follow-up missions, is that I had hoped that SQEnix would move away from their heavy expository cutscene storytelling dumps and try to modernize the game a bit, but it is what it is. I appreciated both the MSQ and Side Quest with the PeluPelu, although they were not explored as far as I would have liked.
I believe that this expansion's flaw was the major emphasis on Wuk Lamat's voyage rather than us adventuring, learning about, and being "educated" about Tural's cultures. FFXIV also has a long-standing problem of padding the MSQ when something extremely important is happening that must be solved RIGHT NOW, with strange pointless tasks like learning about "AI people" while we are actually in a hurry to prevent the evil AI waifu from killing everyone.
It makes these major hazardous moments feel cartoonish when the villains are kind enough to postpone their global dominance so we can help someone who no longer exists recover their wedding band.
Dawntrail is a overall good expansion that falls flat for me since it is shallow, the cowboy area makes no sense for me to exist, the MSQ is simply too long, and the world-ending threat is unnecessary.
I also miss the political and theological storytelling that helped me fall in love with the game, particularly Heavensward.
--- However, Dawntrail has the power of friendship, god, and anime, hence it is a 10/10 /s.
