People comparing Lyse to Wuk Lamat really dont know what they are talking about, to be honest. Other than ''female lead that I dislike''.

Wuk Lamat gets too much dialogue and thats about it, but also the loudest haters of her are mostly transphobes that are grabbing into any issue, no matter how minor or non-existent. People are expecting way too much emotional payoff and ''epic'' moments out of DT. The devs said like add nauseum that DT was going to be the ARR of a new arc - wanting DT to hit the same highs that ShB/EW is not only delusional but also its not sustainable. WoW suffers of this, the constant power scaling has been awful for the game's story.

Also? People need to get over themselves a bit too. EW and ShB also had cooldown moments that ''wasted your time''.

Lyse as a whole was a terrible character because she becomes the spotlight of the Ala Mhigo arc at the cost of literally everyone else. This is specially bad when you notice that Lyse, who gets told that she doesnt have the right to be the hero and force people to fight for her ideals back in Doma, ends up doing exactly that in Ala Mhigo... where like 3-4 characters (all darker skinned, too) get killed off or sidelined to try to make Lyse the practically queen of Ala Mhigo.

There is a reason why the patch MSQ redeemed Lyse by demoting her to just A leader of Ala Migho, focusing more on Raubahn as the more de facto leader of Ala Mhigo.

When something is a new arc, it doesn't mean the writing has permission to be lackluster, boring or childish. Not going too deep into why Dawntrail fails as a story, the character writing just isn't there. Wuk Lamat isnt the issue, not even her VA, its the writing. The claimed "mentor arc" isnt there either, it's just a badly paced and written story.

A story is not just the ending. Just saying. Dawntrail could've been written well, exciting, chill, letting us know new characters, even revealing new personal sides of the Scions since they insisted on bringing them along. But noooooooooo. Wuk Lamat could've been great too, but a lot of her screentime is wasted and theres a LOOOOT of screentime. Lot of inconsistencies too. Most glaring, she is the friend of all the old people in the city, but none of them talked to her about the past, the different cultures, shared their culture with her? HAH. Good one SE. Old people gossip more than anyone, theres no way she didnt hear anything, unless she kept her ears shut and eyes closed the whole time.

And I'm pretty sure Yoshi-P already backpedaled to "8.0 is the actual start guys, we promise" if the translations / grabs are correct.

Get over the whole transphobia crap. The vast majority of people who dislike Wuk Lamat didn't even know she was trans. Find a new talking point, because you're just muddying up the discussion and trying to pull attention away from the complaints that are prevalent on the forum and social media in general, about Dawntrail and Wuk Lamat. You kids have to do better than this dog whistle.

I kind of like Wuk Lamat.

My main pet-peeve with Dawntrail, having recently completed the MSQ but not yet completed the follow-up missions, is that I had hoped that SQEnix would move away from their heavy expository cutscene storytelling dumps and try to modernize the game a bit, but it is what it is. I appreciated both the MSQ and Side Quest with the PeluPelu, although they were not explored as far as I would have liked.

I believe that this expansion's flaw was the major emphasis on Wuk Lamat's voyage rather than us adventuring, learning about, and being "educated" about Tural's cultures. FFXIV also has a long-standing problem of padding the MSQ when something extremely important is happening that must be solved RIGHT NOW, with strange pointless tasks like learning about "AI people" while we are actually in a hurry to prevent the evil AI waifu from killing everyone.

It makes these major hazardous moments feel cartoonish when the villains are kind enough to postpone their global dominance so we can help someone who no longer exists recover their wedding band.

Dawntrail is a overall good expansion that falls flat for me since it is shallow, the cowboy area makes no sense for me to exist, the MSQ is simply too long, and the world-ending threat is unnecessary.

I also miss the political and theological storytelling that helped me fall in love with the game, particularly Heavensward.

--- However, Dawntrail has the power of friendship, god, and anime, hence it is a 10/10 /s.

    I also agree with this.

I myself am not particulary fond of Wuk (to say it in nice words), but I also have the same problems with Dawntrail that you listed.
What I wanna say is...I guess, it's just nice to see an opinion that doesn't blindly dismiss all the criticism of DT and even agrees with it, even though you like Wuk (which is totally fine btw!).
Some of us tend to forget that we as humans are multifaceted. We can personally like something, but at the same time rightfully criticize it. There is not only black and white.

So I discovered that is my alt's raid leader who did that Reddit post and he's done a full analysis. It's very fun just to see what each character's common words are. And it also shows the uneven distribution in DT really well. The only expansion that is similar is not SB surprisingly but HW. But that makes sense because most of that was a road trip with Alphinaud and two people who spoke in grunts and sighs.

The saddest part here is that Kriles most used word since introduction is Wuk Lamat despite DT being about her origins...

Funny thing is that Wuk lamat managed that despite not being in the wild west zone. That's... something.
It also shows that I am kinda sick of Alphinaud at this point on the other hand and how badly the scions are handled in spotlight to each other.

But eh... I guess even with that there will be people who defend DT and it's handling of Wuk Lamat.
