should 8.0 cut the harder content back in exchange for-

In exchange for more robust casual and midcore content? a revamp of jobs and a revamp of the character creation, focus in on that much needed TLC of the gold saucer, improve gearing methods and work to making gear obsolete less often. Right now 70% of this games content is for casual to high end raiders, but the Rp'er in this game, or the limsa chatter gets absolutely nothing. and that's 80% of the playerbase at the end of the day!

would it not be better to put their needs first? and improve some of the lacking unfinished and basically undeveloped systems in the game..? and yes improving msq is part of all of this too

would you be in favour of 1 ultimate and less savages/exes/criterions/Chaotics if it meant more QOL in the foundations of the game? perhaps adding more things into it to discourage people from modding it

    - just an edit here, this wouldnt be a forever thing. but 8.0 has a lot of work cut out for itself, and im not sure they have enough staff to design all this content, have it be high quality and improve the many plaguing issues with the game right now

No, but perhaps they can put some of that into forum moderation and clamping down on the trolls and their troll topics.

They are already trying to focus on more robust casual and midcore content this expansion. This is why we are seeing a crator at the end of the latest dungeon, the ghost/non-ghost mechanics in Stayborough, the hearts mechanic in M2, the alliance raid mechanics (particularly of the last boss) and making Field Operations again.

Speaking of the alliance raid returning to Weeping City / Orbonne difficulty, they discussed that recently and said that people would find that difficulty easy now so they have to add more complex mechanics, but making them too complex makes it too difficult for casual players. They feel they nailed the target difficulty of the alliance raid but want to make the next harder https://www.gamesradar.com/games/fin...collaboration/

They are already revamping jobs in 8.0 based on what they said. They have also been discussing internally what to do instead of progressing beyond level 100, floating ideas such as Skill Trees, Talents and Ability Points - which could have a big impact on job changes by allowing people to choose how complicated their job is.

I think they might actually have implied that character creation revamps were in their list when they said they "brought forward the lighting revamp" of the character creator. But I think it's in their list in the sense of, they might look at it sometime in the next 10 years.

Not sure what you really want for the Gold Saucer. They add to it from time to time - usually a new GATE each expansion. We most recently had Open Tournaments and the Fall Guys event added, and a small addition to Doman Mahjong.

I actually agree that Roleplayers get nothing in MMORPGs usually, and they have to just make do with scraps, despite being the ones keeping the game alive by logging in every day regardless of content delivery. However, from SE's perspective they began to focus on Roleplayers a long time ago with features such as: regular housing additions (furniture etc), regular emote additions, Bard music, Ocean Fishing, Island Sanctuary, the dual-dye system, even the graphics update arguably. Nevertheless, I think they could do so much better. Being able to create an area and set the time of day, weather and scenery would help roleplayers out a lot, for example (doing it in Gpose, houses or Island Sanctuary isn't quite enough). Duels anywhere would also help, because it's hard to recreate a fight scene anywhere but the Wolves' Den when increasingly more attacks require a target.

As much as I wish gear wasn't obsolete so often, if it's made more complicated then a person may not be able to just return to the game after 4 years, buy gear from the market board and jump into Savage immediately, which arguably increases participation a lot by removing virtually all barriers you might have found in other games. I do think the idea of there being more complex materia that transforms specific job's rotations or feel that drops from specific content has merit, but would SE ever do it? I suppose if they would, it would be in 8.0 where they ponder linear progression.

Midcore will never work because no one can agree on what midcore is. My proof of that? I think savage is midcore content, because I don't think I'm all that good relatively speaking, yet I can get through it.

People say exploration content is midcore, yet to me there's nothing more casual that that lol.

I thought midcore is like extremes and what not? And savage sorta straddles the inbetween of extremes/ultimates?

If Ex is considered midcore, then gosh I'm such a bad player.

I think most people tend to agree that Bozja was about right. It didn't really matter who you were. You could participate in Castrum Lacus Litore, Delubrum Reginae and Dalriada, and all of the Critical Engagements. They weren't so difficult that people had trouble participating or clearing them. But they were difficult enough that there were bodies everywhere, that everyone wiped sometimes (actual prospect of failure? in this game?) and that the more confident 8 players would handle the more delicate mechanics that could wipe the raid if failed. In a similar way, Eureka NMs used to leave bodies everywhere in many cases, but players would overcome them and it was fun because of that. Your goal was (hopefully) to be the minority of players that didn't die.

However, it is true that the most ultra casual players that only do MSQ ocasionally actually believe dungeons are hard. The kind of players that think they need to spam cure or adlo, for example, because the only thing that could underpin that is a belief that they are hard enough to warrant it. So to an extent, not everyone will agree, you're right.

While the first floors can be, the difficulty usually gets steep to a point where you really don't want to deal with PF and if you don't want to deal with PF, then getting a static together and keeping it together and coordinating all of you being there at the same time can be a hurdle for a lot of people.

Personally, I think Extremes are midcore and in fact a lot of people will do exclusively extremes due to that, but a percentage of the playerbase will just never touch anything labeled "High-End" regardless of its actual difficulty. What made Field Operations work was not labeling them as such or requiring them to join a party they could be kicked from over performance, whilst still making them leave bodies everywhere.

I don’t even agree with OP but statements like this are pointless, we know what people are referring to when they say “midcore” content that’s lacking in the game

Saying “acshooly sweaty day 2 ultimate prog is casual content” doesn’t change the reality that’s it’s easy to point out exactly where the gap meant by midcore content is (the BA range). If you wanna call that super ultra mega casual then it doesn’t change the reality of the situation

As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

People keep saying the word "midcore midcore!" but what they actually mean is long term content like exploratory content or relic weapon grinds, or anything else they might add that is an ongoing grind. The difficulty of the content isn't really what people mean when they say "midcore". Just stuff you can go into with other people or solo without much preperation and makes you grind to complete it.
