If it was just a dps meter - fine. But with all this additional information it provides you clearly have an advantage over people who don't use ACT / are on console.
Yeah so the game collects information but refuses to show it to people and the problem is forcing the game to reveal this information in a way that can actually be read and not the fact that they won’t update the battle log to actually reveal this information

You shouldn’t HAVE TO use ACT to tell how much combined mitigation is used against an attack WHEN THE GAME COLLECTS THIS INFORMATION, it just won’t show it to you

As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

My dude what are you on, share some, please. The game tells you how much damage you take in the Battle Log which is by default available.

What ACT does, it collects that information and then interprets the data collected via formulas. You would obtain the exact same result if you pooled everything into an Excel spreadsheet and then calculated everything yourself. (which is what ACT is as at a crude rudimentary level)
Base ACT and fflogs are automation tools making everything a lot more accessible.

The game tells you “you took x damage” and that’s about it. It doesn’t tell you that in a useful way. It doesn’t tell you directly what was mitigating it (you have to look above for what mitigations applied and below for what drops off specifically after), it doesn’t show you properly how much each mitigation contributed as they have stacking effect and it makes everything extremely opaque and annoying to analyse

The game knows that the 5 mitigations used on that tankbuster collectively mitigated 67% of the damage but it won’t tell you that directly, you have to look through the opaque log to find what was active at the time and calculate yourself what percentage of damage was mitigated by stacking those particular mits. It’s just pointless

Haaayaa... they do say ignorance is bliss after all.

That is the final result which you can reverse engineer. The final result is a combination of the buffs: Mits (class abilities: ex Kerakole, Temperance) + Role mits (faint, reprisal.. etc) + armor (which will provide a final % reduction). Every spell/ ability.. etc that you do is also telegraphed in the battle log as well. Plus, how do you think they calculate those numbers? They don't magically appear or they are godsent or something.

Also how do you think SE designs fights? They also have a similar tool that simulates results.

If you want to argue that is an unfair advantage because it provides an accessible result and breakdown then I would agree because doing everything manually would be a significant time sink to obtain the same result.

But ACT is a collection tool and FFlogs interprets the data, nothing else. Also, I believe ACT originally was done for Everquest then Ravahn expanded it with his team. (side fact , not related to discussion but worth being mentioned)

That’s been my argument the entire time. That ACT while an advantage isn’t a problem because it simply presents the battle log in a usable format

You can’t expect almost anyone to actually manually do what ACT does behind the scenes besides whole everything is there in game the battle log is pointlessly opaque

Contrary to unpopular believe, you can make full use of the data that ACT provides when you are on console. Just need to have a pc player with act with you in the group which should never be a problem unless you are a crank.

If you want to take the combat log and throw it into a massive excel spreadsheet however, more power to you. You will either realize that it's a waste of effort and realize that you should just use the much more direct tool ACT or you realize your potential as excel god and start competing in the excel world championship. That's a real esport btw.

Incorrect yet again. FFlogs and Plugins process, not ACT.

The core standalone base ACT does nothing except collect data, so your argument at the base is just null, if you are looking for reasons to be mad about go for people using Plugins. Plugins is the word you are looking for not ACT. Cactbot is a plugin, DPS meter is a plugin, Pixel Perfect is a plugin, splatoon is a plugin and also the last 2 have nothing to do with ACT but with Dalamund.

I am sure SE would hire a person to talk about plugins and ACT. Try to turn on the light next time you type something.

You know I meant FFlogs to interpret ACT don’t waste time arguing semantics

My entire point is that ACT/FFlogs aren’t inherently problematic because all they is make the battle log usable and nobody is really going to actually do what ACT/FFlogs do behind the scenes and the battle log should be showing this anyway

Anything in regards to plugins in neither here nor there in regards to my argument
