Aren't holiday quests a waste of development time and effort right now?

Tanaka didn't have this event done. They might have had those crappy quests in the works, but this is new content. This one doesn't have bells in it, remember?
This is a whole new batch of meh coming right up when we need nothing but revolution.

I don't want to hear about another wave of mediocre filler between now and the battle engine and PVE content. Neither does most of this game's potential player base. Get it done. They should not make it look like they've devoted a SINGLE minute to CRAP gameplay in the meantime.

If Blizzard makes a bad game, guess what happens? They throw it in the trash. They don't say aw well it's already basically made let's use it. Bliz would have never published those horrible quests. 2/10 content brings a 5/10 game even further down into the dumps.

I personally wish they'd stop making them until the game is fixed. 60% of our new content in the game has now been these pointless holiday events. It just feels like they're focussing too much on piddle-content that is easy so they can get content points with the players. Unfortunately they don't *count* for anything at this point in time as far as I'm concerned. Holiday events are things that developers make when there's nothing to do in downtime, for silly style points, and they don't feel like they affect release of any other component of the game. Now is not the time to be releasing holiday event after holiday event while the spell animations look like they do and the areas of real content are what they are.

Developmental points earned for:
Starlight celebration: 0
Valentione's day: 0
Heavensturn: 0
1-shot Fetch quests: 0

Time those took to create could have developed one solid, permanent area of content of value IMO. Feels like they're wasting their time and effort on so many things that don't matter in order because they're quick and easy when that's not what the game needs.

I think they should stop developing holiday events and quests with no goal-oriented ends until they develop content that does.

Crafting, gathering and some new rank quests and quest story arcs are content that are all healthy enough to be added to without whitewashing the bad fences. We're not ready for food and raid content until the battle system is overhauled. We're not ready for major story arcs until the job system is overhaulled. But we're ready for something better than the effort and time spent on 3 lame holiday events and 18 useless quests that are hit and quit.

Right. All of these holiday events create 1 new set of gear (graphics design). Are the developers done with blm whm monk paladin, dark knight, dragoon, and warrior gear? No. They aren't. Get to work on that then and don't give me some stupid spring skirt. All of these holidays create new animations for consumables (motion capture, graphics design). Are the developers done with spell animation overhauls and new action animations for the meleers? No. They're not. Get to work on that and don't give me fireworks. All these events take coding and troubleshooting. Does epiphany work? No, it does not.

I have a list of gear they could be making if they need ideas.
In mining alone, how about they start with the R47 pickaxe and level-appropriate boots that match the rest of the outfit. Balance quarrying. Put copper ore at G5. That's a start.

Yes, they are releasing Holiday content. Not only is it neat, and provides cool little trinkets that only the people that participated will have (unless they make trade-able items), but it is a strong tradition in SE MMO. Yes, other mmo's make some holiday events too, but this is "new" content for ffxiv. Don't sit here and whine and whine and f'ing whine about this new content just because you don't care to participate in it.

It does not take 100% development staff power to crank out this kind of content. I would put money on them having another department or small team that is still working on 7a patch, and if you really think they've taken the entire battle team offline to work on a holiday event you are freaking st---- as sh--.

Just stop whining. If you are really that ticked off about the content or lack thereof, and I don't mean to be one of these people, but go play something else for a while!!!

Ok Tanaka. Rift came along and pretty much destroyed that excuse. I don't want to hear any whining about how long things take. If they're having trouble keeping up with the industry pace, they need to hire better talent. Other games are doing this just fine. No excuses.

My persistant concern is that this dev team still doesn't have what it takes to keep up, so they keep focusing on the easiest and cheapest way to prove they have content and progress: holiday events and useless fetch quests. The game's dying, folks. What few of us left that are playing are just withering away. We're planning. We're thinking. We're preparing. We're...planning some more.

6 months, barely any progress. I've had enough of the excuses. This is Final Fantasy. If they can't even keep up with Rift, buy their staff and fire ours. I guarantee they'd rather be doing SE employees' job than waiting for WoW to kill their product.

And Blizz is building on a long tradition of ideas that have worked for them. The only projects that didn't work out that was really any big deal was Starcraft: Ghost. The only reply to this comment would be 'what about ffxi' but if you have read maybe.... 5 other threads in this board or have been following progress you would know that is due to Tanaka's 'extreme direction' with the original game. Yoshi is trying to get us back to core FF values. Shut up and be patient.
