"Listen but closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."
Honestly, most of the ex-FFXI gamers should know to expect maintenence. Like at least 2 of them.should have taken it into account in your guess!
I say they should just keep the countdown going as is, to spare themselves the headache of figuring out when each server went down and subtracting that servers time from each individual entry after figuring out which person belongs to which server.
After all, you were supposed to predict how long it would take for her to go down after the patch went live. You should have forseen the downtime.
The problem with this thinking is that we did not know *when* the patch was going to be released prior to the contest. Therefore, any plans made could only be tentative at best because you had no timetable. The fact that you could meet up at all after patch was random chance, SE could have just as easily said "sorry maintenance is extended til 1am, and servers woudl have opened at inconvenient times anyway.of course it does. Lets say my friends and I prepared prior to the patch to try to get first kill. With a 5 hour maintenance some would have to go to work, school, etc. It essentially interrupts ppl in the process of trying to win. When the server reopens it will be 5am est and 2am pst. There will be a lot less ppl on trying and ppl who sacrificed their sleep schedule or took time out of their life to try to kill it (yes some ppl do that) will have given up on rushing for it.
Long story short, its perfectly fair. Nowhere in the contest did it say patch had to conform to tentatively scheduled plans.
Maybe SE should add a disclaimer to their contests in the futureHonestly, most of the ex-FFXI gamers should know to expect maintenence. Like at least 2 of them.should have taken it into account in your guess!

*Please note that we have incompetent employees and are unlikely to release a working patch on time. Take our fail into consideration when making your guess.

It is likely they will count the time from when the servers go back up and not the little time we had.
Also the fact they closed all, so no one can be killing it while another server wont even load XD
We all sat through so many patches and every damn time servers chrashed, characters vanished, teleports failed, servers required emergency maintenances, etc. and people still thought there would be a win in under 5 hours?
Well that's their own fault then.
it has nothing to do with when the patch is released, it has to do with the servers being up for 2 hours and then going down. The problem with this thinking is that we did not know *when* the patch was going to be released prior to the contest. If they don't count the 2 hours than a party who has completed the pre-reqs prior maintenence coming back up might defeat it in an hour. The fight will be tallied as an hour but in reality it took them 3 hours.
If they do count the 2 hours then instead of 40 parties being ready to try the fight, due to the 5 hours only 10 parties might still have the 8 ppl with pre-reqs done. Thus the average time to complete garuda would increase.
