The changes to LoS gameplay are so weird because there are skills that get cancelled mid-animation like you described. And then there are other abilities like PCT's black commet that follow you around while the animation is still playing and hit you even when you've long disappeared behind a wall.
At the moment I really miss the old way LoS worked. It was snappier and more intuitive. And ironically I think escaping or making recoveries before 7.1 was also easier, even if you couldn't block/avoid attacks by reading animations like in 7.1 because your own recovery skills were a lot more responsive, quick and intuitive too.
Maybe I'll grow used to it but the speed of the old gameplay is something I always enjoyed a lot.
