That and the year we got to speak with the NPCs of some of the devs and got to go into a makeshift version of their office space. It featured teasers for future content and felt more personal.

Honestly? Yeah... I usually love the All Saints ones, especially when Gruff is present. This one just felt like an episode of some TV show for babies. Gruff is here, but all he does is act out of character and contribute sweet FA to the event's story beyond "token rival character."

I agree. This probably won't ever fit the nature of FFxiv but I wouldn't mind a small, temporary but seasonal dungeons where you could go in, participate with a match-making group for an outfit or two, mounts or other trinkets with seasonal bosses. (But - maybe this sounds too close to Criterion.)

And worst of all? Those games don't even respect your time. Yep, that's right. But FFXIV does. For just $13 a month, you can play all the other MMOs you want as long as they're free. And you can be on the right side of history, all at the same time. How else can you prove your superiority online? With FFXIV, you are superior, and everyone knows it. All you have to say is "but WoW", and flocks of unwashed peasants bow at your feet. Mention how Yoshi-P cried that one time and the peasants will start crying too. Content? We don't need content. We have fans, and that's enough for Square Enix.

In all seriousness, this game has unique seasonal events that are different every year, plus they also continue a storyline from a previous year or more with sometimes reoccurring characters. Hell, the Rising this past summer had us catch up with Deryk (Oschon) from the Myths of the Realm raids! Seasonal events in WoW have no story and just happen with nothing changing.

Seasonal events have gradually became glorified hand-outs. The devs have obviously resigned themselves to low-effort all seasonal events since like the previous 2 years or so. Events now are mostly just "click here, then here, then here, maybe emote an NPC, free stuff, event over." With a couple exceptions, The stories for most events have become even more formulaic and shallow than an Illumination Entertainment film for kids; that usually plays-out like:

"WoL, I wanna be the thing. But I'm not good at the thing. Talk to 3 NPCs. WoL, now I can be the thing."
"WoL, people don't understand my cute [mount/minion]. Talk to 3 NPCs, [use mount's special emote if applicable]. Now people understand my cute [mount/minion]."
    etc...

And to go with these new low-effort events (lol, low-effort everything really), instead of trading tokens you could get for participating in the new holiday instances, they seem to just rather slap them in a vendor and make them available at dirt-cheap gil values. No more running the Haunted House team events in a group of 4 for several times to get everything or other festive consumables. It all really comes across now as "Okay, we gave you a slapped-together holiday event with something new slapped-on as a reward that you'll probably never use, don't say we don't give you things." To be fair though, the new Hot-Topic glamour will likely get a lot of use compared to their usual put-in-armoire-and-forget glamour. My only gripe is they mix-and match poorly with existing gear due to the "texture" causing it to dye differently from everything else even if it's the exact same color.

It seems gone are the days of creating (new) objective-driven limited-time instances that rewards you (and your DF partners) based on how well you do. Sure, we get unique FATEs once in a while still for certain holidays, but they're largely just recycled if used at all. Now, if they deign to bother bringing back these "mini games" of old events, they're no longer part of the event and simply pushed to the side, bereft of rewards. Even this Halloween event seems to just have the recycled Haukke mansion instance and decorated secluded outdoor area purely for RP and photo-ops.

It's not just the main content that's been on the decline.

I have gotten quite bored with the seasonal events of late.

I think the stories are kind of interesting, but CS3 has been very uninspired in their implementation. Every camera angle in every cutscene is a shot-reverse-shot with minimal movement because they don't want to stray from the "easy to make" mold. They need to shake things up to keep things more enjoyable, with implementation of the plot and with content of the event. I miss needing to do FATEs or having to kill monsters or doing anything to feel accomplished by the end of a quest.

In 2022 we got a story of a mad clown stealing souls and we had to go to the central shroud and into a dungeon to save those souls.

Now we are friends with that clown who turned out to be a demon and we are just trying to make another demon feel useful and we don't even leave the map.

Most All Saint's Wake events have somebody up to no good and we have to save or protect the people. This just had a girl briefly missing.

I appreciate that they aren't stupid grindy but the story is pretty much the same as the last Valanetiones Day, and many other events: Helping someone feel useful.

But at the same time, WoW events usually have little minigames you can partake in and unique bosses, depending on the event. Also, they allow you to re-earn most cosmetics and don't just toss them on the cash shop like FF14 here.
