maybe one day they do the same and have you pay lots of Gil to increase the size of your plot outside.

I doubt it. They mentioned that they can do make a small interior into a large because "it's like stepping into another dimension." So, basically they can do this because housing interiors are instanced.

The neighborhoods are shared however. If you could change the size of your plot it would scramble the rest of the neighborhood
